PSU Ingest slow.

Post by bwest »

I'm still trialing Photo Supreme 7 and wonder if I am doing something wrong.
I am using Windows 11 on a Dell XPS 8930 computer with 16GB ram, i7-9700 3.00 gHz processor.

When ingesting 500 images taken with a Nikon D500, it takes more than 10 minutes.
I transferred the images from the card to my hard drive and ingested from there.

Is it normal that it takes that long to add a relatively small number of images to a catalog?
Or am I doing something wrong, maybe a setting needs to be changed.

Thanks for your help and support.

You do not mention what type of drive is in your computer.

In general when performance problems occur:
1. Place your catalog on an internal SSD drive. Databases are disk intensive and an average SSD is 30x faster than a HDD. That is an easy massive performance win as PSU it’s database interacts with the disk all the time

2. Make sure that you have the catalog folder excluded from all your virus scanners, including the virus scanner that comes with your OS (eg Windows Defender)

Thanks, Hert,
My internal drive for data is a mechanical Seagate 4TB drive.
The internal drive for Windows 11 and all other programs is a SSD.
I copied all 500 images over to the SSD drive and ingest from there.
By doing so, the ingest time was less than 3 minutes.
Looks like I might consider replacing my data-drive.
Thanks again for your reply
