Write metadata to XMP sidecar, but not to image file

Post by Ulrike » 09 Sep 19 15:11

I'm still testing iDimiger and my first question is: Can we write out metadata to XMP sidecar file only? We don't want to change JPG files themselves at all.

The metadata standards defines that XMP must be written embedded for JPG.
You can configure psu to not write metadata. And there’s a batch command that allows you to save XMP to a sidecar file. The batch command is “Export XMP to File”

In addition to Hert's reply, if JPG files are made read-only (an option in the importer) then PSu will use a sidecar file on syncing.

There is nothing in the XMP standard that enforces writing metadata into JPEG. Our images a tagged in Cologne and only XMP sidecars are transferred to Einthoven and Hagen. Also backups only need to write changes in XMP but not 500 high resolution photos per day.
I had a look into the settings but I can see nothing that sets JPEG to read only. Could you please add some detail?
