HTML web galleries?
HTML web galleries?
The last time I evaluated PSu (in 2014), it did not include a feature to generate customizable HTML Web galleries. Is this still the case?
(I am considering migrating from Media Pro, which has this feature.)

Re: HTML web galleries?
These days people tend to use photo sharing services to share photos online. Flickr, ZenFolio, and SmugMug are examples of such excellent services. These services also allow you to control access to your online albums: private, public, only friends, or even link sharing (someone with a link can access the album). Photo Supreme provides features to share to these aforementioned photo sharing services.
Apart from that you can also export to a folder (which you can then upload) or use the FTP sharing feature. Both options allows you to configure the output files for size, watermarking etc.
You could then upload those to a personal website and run a service there that is able to publish photos that are available in folders on your server.
Sorry to have to disappoint you.

Features to generate HTML galleries was removed about a decade ago because it was hardly being used anymore. Is this still the case?

Re: HTML web galleries?
Thanks, Hert. I figured the answer was still "no" but I thought I would ask. (Yes, I know about Zenfolio, etc., but I am already paying for my own web hosting service since I already design my own website and don't wish to pay for a service I don't need. That might change in the future, though.)
Re: HTML web galleries?
I do think it is unfortunate that PSu no longer supports this; as Hert says its precursor IDI did (a decade ago, has it been so long?).
Photosharing sites are great and I am using Zenfolio myself, but if you work at an institution and want to set up galleries as part of an institutional site maintaining a private web service on the side does not seem optimal. That said, as Hert points out, institutional sites often can accommodate you via FTP. In practice it unfortunately requires quite a bit more tweaking and is much less efficient that keeping things as easily in sync as with photosharring sites.
You could file a feature request in Mantis, but from what Hert writes, it sounds like there is only a remote chance of success this will again be implemented...

Re: HTML web galleries?
I'm pretty sure you will be able to find bits of freeware that can take a folder of images and create a page for you, though finding one that does it just the way you like may be harder.
Re: HTML web galleries?
It is noticeable, if my quick Google search can be trusted, that there are many web gallery applications out there that have not been updated for a few years, rather supporting Hert's contention that demand is much less now that it used to be.

Re: HTML web galleries?
Just so you understand what I'm talking about...
My Media Pro HTML templates are integrated into the program and rely on the catalog's fields and annotations, including custom fields and their contents, to create both index and media HTML pages. A similar template would have to be integrated within PSu for the HTML generation process to retrieve and insert PSu's annotation content for each image/page. I'm not aware of any third party code that could do this, free or otherwise.
Re: HTML web galleries?
That might be true, but I know of at least four major DAM or DAM-like programs that have a Web gallery generation feature: Lightroom, FotoStation, Photo Mechanic, and Capture One. (Not all are equal in quality.) I won't pursue this with Hert since he has made his decision. When Media Pro no longer runs on my Mac, I'll likely choose one of those other programs to create my galleries.
Re: HTML web galleries?
Photo Supreme is all about open data. What you put in, you can get out. Unlike some other DAM tools, your data is never stored proprietary. With Photo Supreme, your data is written to your metadata using the industry standard XMP format. This includes your custom fields data, your portfolio collections, catalog label assignments, geo data, and of course image details. Your data is YOUR data.syncrasy wrote: ↑11 Sep 18 3:56Just so you understand what I'm talking about...

Bottom line: PSU doesn’t lock you in by hijacking your data and so you don’t need PSU to generate HTML pages that make use of custom fields that are defined and written with PSU.
Having said this; any (HTML generator or other) product out there that supports reading advanced XMP will be able to read your custom fields from the metadata. It’s a matter of finding the right tool. And a dedicated generator will likely provide much cooler designs.
