I know PS checks drives on pc and it's driving me nuts on a laptop. All my imiges are held at one location but there are links to 3 other pcs and 4 usb drives as well as a server
Nearly all the links are inactive all the time but it takes PS ages to load as it wasts its and my time looking at them for no usfull reason at all. It takes so long all to oftern I am unsure if it's even loading at all and have some times in frustration got a second load under way. Is ther no way of stoping this pointless time waster?Al
Any way of blocking PS when opening looking at all the drives on pc

Re: Any way of blocking PS when opening looking at all the drives on pc
Running under Win 11 I have 3 local drives (1 dedicated to images) and 6 LAN (and old CAT3 wiring) connected drives to a variety of machines all running Win7, Win10 and even Win2003.
It takes 2 seconds to initiate the Logon screen and a further 6 seconds to bring up the full screen, then another couple of seconds whilst extra bits are loaded.
What Operating systems, network and times are you getting so we can compare ?

Re: Any way of blocking PS when opening looking at all the drives on pc
I have W11 and it's taking about 30 seconds to 2 minutes to open
The problem if MS networking is useless so almost everything had to me mapped drives. If I take them off its a matter of seconds to open
It doesn't help having a number of usb hdd with only one attached at amy one time. The network is Ethernet (mostly 5 or 6) most of the time but it's much worse when away and then I just delete the mapped drives and have to redo then when back which is stupid. Just did a test load a very good 17 seconds yesterday it was slow no idea why the differences. On the much faster desk top it opens in 4-5 seconds. The laptop is a nearly new Dell XPS 14 9440 and connected to a router which the NAS and desk are on as well with my wife's laptop via wifi.

Re: Any way of blocking PS when opening looking at all the drives on pc
I notice if you kI notice if you keep opening PS its opening gets faster, now 2 seconds? I had never seen that as I usually open it when processing images and close it when finished. It must hold in memory drive information but even that not totally clear as the laptop is kept in sleep not closed down so PS I would have thought shoul but clearly doesn’t hold it when in sleep?eep opening PS its oping gets faster, now 2 seconds?

Windows caches that information. If you start PSU a second time then Windows responds promptly as it already knows that the drive mappings are not connectedjohnbarrett wrote: ↑18 Sep 24 8:21I notice if you kI notice if you keep opening PS its opening gets faster, now 2 seconds?
