Plain text search

Post by Roman »

The Searching Quick start guide states that if you wish to search for non-tokenised strings you can use the %plain qualifier at the start of the search string. I am having difficulty in getting this to work. For example in the top right search box if enter Painted it appears in the token drop down list and if I select the token several images are returned. If I enter %plain:aint as the search string and press enter no images are returned. An I misinterpreting how %plain is used?

That %plain marker was removed again later after the search engine got revamped in 7.2. There's no performance hit anymore either (%plain would do a sequential search which is very slow).

Use wildcards instead e.g.

Code: Select all

painted
Wildcard before:

Code: Select all

"*ainted"
Wildcard after:

Code: Select all

"pain*"
Wildcard before and after:

Code: Select all

"*aint*"
PS> press enter after entering a search text. Not getting a drop down doesn't mean that there is no result. The drop down only appears when direct hits are found. Including search operations like "alex"+"dean" will not give a drop down.
