Newbie - workflows

Post by lukebro »

I've started testing IDimager Photo Supreme and so far it's the most useful photo organization software I've tested (and I think I've tested most of the ones available on the market up to 250€).

As I am a newbie and I would like to sort my photos (over 130,000 of them 5000 analogue ones without metadata) as soon as possible, I would like to find out / clear up some confusions:
  • Is "Label" equivalent to keywords in other programs?
  • Where can I find information on how to quickly add labels (keywords) to the photos?
  • Is it possible to import keywords / labels?
  • According to this forum post: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=23569, it is possible to detect faces, but not to automatically assign people to faces. From what I found it is possible to detect faces by Google AI (paid additionally). Is it possible to detect faces without AI?
  • Is it possible to add a new field "Circa Date Created" as it is foreseen in IPTC standard: www iptc org/std/photometadata/documentation/userguide/ (As new user I am not allowed to insert urls. Url has spaces instead of dots)? I have many photos from negatives which do not have dates on them. I would like to sort the photos as accurately as possible. A model to follow in this case - in my opinion - is the Bundesarchiv. The possibility to enter and sort dates such as only the month and/or year (e.g. 1943 ca.) is a great advantage.
  • How can I adapt the GUI to a 4K monitor so that the metadata fields and the structure of folders, directories etc. are not so small?
  • Often metadata fields do not respond immediately (e.g. original date field), is this normal?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!

First of all a warm welcome to the forum.
Is "Label" equivalent to keywords in other programs?
A Catalog Label can (at first) best be considered a Keyword. It's more a Keyword on steroids.
Where can I find information on how to quickly add labels (keywords) to the photos?
Read the Cataloging Quick Manual. Find it in the ? icon in the lower left corner of the application.
Is it possible to import keywords / labels?
When using the default settings then Keywords will become Catalog Labels on import.

Photo Supreme uses Google Vision for all AI settings. You cannot detect faces areas without AI

Circa Date Created is part of the "Artwork or Object in the Image field".

Drag the right side panel wider.

Not sure what you mean. Perhaps you can show a video and also state the specs of your computer like OS, processor type, and internal memory. Also make sure to exclude the Catalog Folder from *every* virus scanner that you may have installed, including the Windows embedded virus scanner (if running Windows)

Thank you very much for warm welcome :)

Perfect! I think this is the first software that natively supports this value.

The date field behaves a little strangely, i.e. I have to click harder on it to activate it. I don't know if the video shows what I mean (after work I'll try to make a video and post here a link). Other fields that I have tested seem to work more responsive when I click on them and then I can enter the value right away. It's not a big deal, I can live with it :).

PS I finished reading the "Cataloging" manual and now I know exactly what the labels are (great idea)
