Anybody suffering start up problems ?

Post by G8DHE » 30 Jun 20 22:40

Noticed over the last week or so that on several occasions the start up of PSU has had problems with version 5.4.1.3001.
Specifically as soon as I click in on any of the panels the mouse pointer goes busy and not responding appears, however if I click on the hambuger menu and choose an option that seems to function correctly but may lock up in the same way after the function has performed. I then have to force close PSU and restart, so far it has always come back after the second or third attempt.
This is on Windows 10 all current updates.
There are no error messages and no CPU activity, no disk activity to the database or images. No other problems on the machine have shown up.
There is a Windows Error Report from the Application log;

Make sure that
1. Your catalog is compacted
2. Your catalog folder is excluded from any installed virus scanner (including Windows Defender)
3. Close all open tabs (on startup they need to be reloaded)

Ps. Windows error reports are probably helpful to Microsoft, but useless to others. This unlike macOS reports that typically do contain helpful info.

Tks Hert,
Yes the catalog is being compacted quite frequently, it is excluded from all the virus detectors.
The one I don't always do is close all the tabs, but the tabs rebuild both counts thumbnails before locking up.
Yes I've never found much useful in the WER's, I live in hope ;-)

What is the catalog section (All - Categories - Portfolios etc) that you have typically selected on startup?

Most frequently Categories|Places or States, the processor and memory usage is normal until after having built the thumbnails up, then reduces as would be expected, until I click in a window then instantly drops to zero and "not responding" so it appears to be triggered by the mouse click.

Anything! Can just be black space outside of a thumbnail or anything in the Label window or similar it seems, trouble is when its occurred its been just one click and then freeze, so it was only last night that I started "logging" just what was happening.

That doesn't make much sense...when you click on a background then nothing happens.
Can you press Alt+Tab, could it be that there's a dialog box hidden behind the application which waits to be closed.

I am also having issues now with the latest version.
I open PSU having a category selected and all thumbnails are displayed.
Clicking on any menu item results in an exception

After a restart of the application, do you still get this?
Also, did you already try to compact the database?

Did you compact the database just now? How you describe your access violation indicates a corrupt database.

Hallo,
I can confirm the same problem, after I installed Version 3001. A MacBook is used.
In my case, PSU starts with a Tab Folder open, where I left PSU last time.

What I could see so far:
- folder number of files are loaded significantly slower than normal.
- Clicking on a tab or try to close it, clicking on any folder, or try to open a panel makes PSU stalling, mouse goes to "beachball".
- PSU seems not to use a lot of CPU (fans are quite), but MacBook not responsive also any more

Compacting of Database was done frequently, Restart of MacBook does not help.

I can confirm also, that the Hamburger Menue looks like as it is responsive as long you do not click somewhere else first.
If you try to compact via the Hamburger Menue right now, PSU is doing nothing, no activities on the SSD's.

Can you send a (zipped) copy of your catalog database (no thumbs) to support@idimager.com Best to Upload to a webservice (Google drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, wetransfer etc) and send a link
