PSU hung after importing photos
PSU hung after importing photos
Hi,
I was importing photos, about 10gb worth and at the same time adding places, when PSU completed all tasks and shows no cpu activity at all. I cannot shrink or access the photos, all I see is the spinning disk. Currently using 456mb of ram.

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
Ian,
I have experienced the same thing. What version of PSu? OS?
I did not have this happen on v4, but multiple times on v5...
Just imported 1.5 GB of photos, 363 MB of RAM being locked, but no CPU usage.

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
Hanging during database compact? That is hardly possible. Did you give it enough time to finish? And what made you conclude that it hung?

PSU hangs on import
I had this problem once in awhile in v4 on Windows 10 but now v5 on Windows 10 I seem to have it more frequently. In fact, most of the time. I'm not sure if its PSU or my import profile or perhaps because I have a new camera.
I import using a pre-defined profile from an SD card to a single folder on my computer. The only details applied are my name, and copyright info. Sometimes I rename the files on import. All imports are RAW and jpg and usually minimum of 100 files.
The status area shows Activity (No processes) but there is an hour glass on the screen, Not Responding is shown at the top of PSU screen and CPU rises if increase in fan noise is an indication. Today I imported 230 and waited about 20 minutes before force quitting. The import itself went rather quickly.
It appears the synchronization service does not complete (it does at least start to display that process in Activity) because all of the files show the out of sync icon.
PSU v 5.10.0.2459 on Windows 10.
Anyone have anything I can check to see what might be causing this?

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
Larry; please check that your import profile has Stacking switched off.

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
Hi Hert,
I let it run for about 30 minutes and tried to shrink it, then let it run a little longer and checked activity monitor and it showed PSU as not responding.

Hi,
I have the same problems. Running V5 on Windows 10. Stacking is switched off.
With V4 I didn´t have that problem.

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
if there’s sufficient diskspace to duplicate the catalog file, then the chances that PSU hangs on compact are second to none. Since PSU has to wait for the database to finish the vacuum, the process may indeed appear stalled, but it is not.
Try to compact the catalog file only, not the thumbs file. The thumbs file can grow very large and take long to finish.

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
Hi Hert,
I could be running low on disk space, about 30gb spare. Looks like a major restructure is required to move less important stuff to external hard drives.
Thank you
Ian

Re: PSU hung after importing photos
Hert, my stack option on the import is turned off.
Re: PSU hung after importing photos
I just imported using a Default import. No details and no stacking. Nothing checked. Kept file name and all to single folder. Import from SD card.
PSU imported but didn't show any synconization action and the Activity shows no processes but all have out of sync icons.
I clicked on scroll bar and Not Responding showed up in the PSU title bar which requred me to force quit and restart.
66 files (33 RAW and 33 jpg) on Windows 10, PSU v5.1.0.2459

Hi Hert,
crashed again, bu this time I let it run and the error message was the disk is full, not sure which disk because my main disk has approx 80gb free.
