Why does Backup move catalog to new location

Post by Larry56 » 19 Dec 18 19:00

I have my catalog located in c:...\Idimager Systems Inc\Catalog but when I do a backup from within PSU v4.3.1.1809 why would it move to the main folder (in this case e:\Photo Supreme Backup\) rather than e:\Photo Supreme\Catalog?

No particular reason. The databases are copied (not moved) to the selected backup folder.

Thanks Hert, but why, when on the c: drive the catalog is in the Catalog folder but after a backup the catalog is in the backup location's root folder and not in the backup Catalog folder? I would have thought the backup would have the same folder structure as the original source.

Why not select the location you want in the dialog box? Personally I backup to an entirely different drive...

I do select by this method.
1. From Tools menu ->Backup Photo Supreme Data
2. From dialog box I navigate to external drive, in this case e:\
3. I select the folder, PhotoSupreme ASUS backup and double click
4. Click on Select Folder
5. Then select thumbnail and catalog database.

While the thumbnail and catalog database are in \Idimager Systems...\Catalog they end up in e:\Photosupreme ASUS backup

Here's a screen shot of my folder structure on C: and the backup structure on E: after a backup which I hope clarifies my question. The Catalog folder on drive e:\ does not have any catalog in it although there are some other files created by Photo Supreme.

The backup folder file organization only serves one purpose: the restore feature. And the restore feature knows where to find the files in the backup folder.
Why are you interested with how the backup folder is organized?

Thanks Hert. No particular reason. I was just curious. I wasn't sure if it was by design or an issue (not bug) as it seemed strange to me that it didn't put it in the Catalog folder in the backup so I thought I'd just ask.
