Event Variable in Subfolder Definition

Post by stefanknoll » 23 Oct 12 17:28

Hi
I started evaluating Photo Supreme today and came over an issue when I tried to define an own subfolder scheme for an import profile. My final file repository for my jpegs should be like .../yyyy-mm-dd_[eventname]. Just to clarify it, an example would be '...\2012-10-23_Photo Supreme Evaluation'.
PS comes with a seeded scheme which is called 'Event name plus Date of image' and looks like 'EventName %yyyy-%mm-%dd'. Based on that scheme I tried to creat an own, custom one. However no matter how I tried, I was not able to move the variable 'EventName' to a different position in the sting without loosing its variable character. E. g. after having changed the string to '%yyyy-%mm-%dd EventName', all that came out was a folder '2012-10-23 EventName'. So something made it change from a variable to a constant, however I can see no difference in the syntax.

Can anyone advise?

Kind regards
Stefan

I had exactly the same question. But when I write a rule with %eventname like this:
%yy_%mm_%eventname
then I get "Access Violation" warning in the header of the editor window.

What might be the problem?

Hi Tom

I would guess that %eventname can only be used at the time of Import - because that's the only time you enter it. "prompt for Event before import starts"

Are you using it then, or are you using it at another place ?

If in another place (once the images are in the catalog ) which field are you hoping to use ?

I wonder if you could use Input User Variable ?

Thanks, Mike, for the response. I am trying to use the %eventname for the import profile, in order to create the folder/subfolder at import. Exactly as OP described.

Oh Dear :-)

I used it in the Batch and got an access Violation.

But When in Import all I get is it rejects the % in front of the event name and I end up with %yy_%mm_eventname

I need to wrap it in %code /%code like:

Code: Select all

%code
result := '%yy_%mm_%eventname'
%/code
.
%FileExtension
In order to preserve the % in front of the eventname

Mike, thanks, it works the way you suggested. But I think the PSU developer should look into the problem, why the variable could not be assigned.

Same kind of issue with FileName definition based on %eventname during import process of a set of 10 pictures (PSU c.1.9.7.177-64bits) :
- the first 3 files was unexpectedly renamed with the string "%eventname"
- the others correctly named with value of %eventname ("Test 2" in this case)

I've made a lot of attempts was with one single file before to try with 10 pictures and check that the 4th was properly renamed !
I've also experienced the solution proposed by (through [%code][\%code]) but without any success.

Anything wrong by me?
Does anybody have another way to solve this issue?

Many thanks.

Hi Oliver,

Did you also tick the option to ask for an event name in the Import settings.

Hi Hert,

Yes I did.

Since my previous message, I've made 2 attemps more, changing selected rules defining folder and filename and changing also the name of the event between both :
- the first was successfull (even if I believe having tick 6 pictures for only 4 ingested....)
- the second (9 pictures) failed with 2 pictures named by error versus 7 correctly and one remaining activity in the stack (thumbnails service) :

I'm having the same result (on V1). I'm using %EventName in the destination folder name. Most of my imported files end up in the desired folder name, but a few — typically the first one — end up in a folder with "%EventName" instead of the actual event name. In one case it looked like the first imported file ended up in both the correct folder and the %EventName folder. It's certainly easy enough to move files and get rid of the %EventName folder, but it's a minor nuisance.

I have also had this behaviour, though I haven't narrowed it down to what triggers it. As you say it's something of a nuisance.

One other point is that idi used to (if the option was selected) create a category record for the import session, which was useful for processing the images you'd just imported. The category name comprised the date and time. Now PSU also creates a category for the import session, but includes the %eventname if supplied; it puts the date & time after the event name rather than before, which I personally don't like as I would prefer these ordered by date & time rather than the event name I gave it. I'll raise a feature request for this, or for before/after to be an option. Maybe some people prefer the event name first as it would give them control over the ordering.

Hi, I come back to the same issue after one year.

I have the same problem as described in last two posts. My import profile rule for folder name includes year_month_enentname. After upgrading to PSU V2 (I believe this is the reason) I get strange behaviour at import. Since lately on import PSU creates two new folders, one of them is correct, and the other one looks like this (example): "2014_02_%eventname". I mean that the text "%eventname" is a part of the folder name, exactly as shown. This folder normally includes 2-8 images, whereas the rest of the images are in the correctly named folder.

Please suggest what might be the reason for that.
