From Media Pro to Photo Supreme (OSX)

Post by AlainB » 15 Sep 21 10:53

I find the import of my Media Pro catalogs to Photo Supreme using the recommended procedure not satisfactory.
Some events disappear entirely in the conversion, others loose most pictures (from 414 to 8 in one case). A category with 732 pictures becomes a category with 3703 pictures, and so on.

I realise that there seem to be another route, using the Photo Supreme 'Data" then "Import From Media Pro" and
apparently loading the XML export of the Media Pro catalog. Does any one has success with this method ?

I imported abuot 50.000 files coming from Media Pro.But:
- folder by folder, not in one go
- start with a small test folder with a few files
- I have not used "Import from Media pro"
- make sure that all info from Media Pro is synced to the files before import into PSU
- Use the importer within PSU
- if you have issues when importing your "small test folder" get in touch with Hert (Support). He helped me a lot to sort out hick-ups

The small folder test was OK.

Under further scrutiny I found the following;

I take picture either in JPEG or in RAW. When I use the RAW format I keep the original RAW file (with no metadata)
and a file with the jpg extension created by Nikon Capture.

It turns out that all metadata in the jpg files are included in PS but the event metadata.

Accordingly,in PS the number of pictures corresponding to a given event is the number of pictures created in JPG

According to Exiftool the event appears as both
Event and
Fixture Identifier
when the file extension is JPG and only as
Fixture Identifier
when the file extension is jpg
