but I haven't set States > Stacked

Post by andrew.heard » 18 Apr 21 4:18

I notice States > Stacked = 30, but when I select, there is a just a single image displayed. AND I've never used stacks. Can someone please explain what's going on here? Please see the attached screen cap.

Maybe you have stacking switched ON in the Ingest feature. Maybe you have stacking switched on in the Verify Folder results.
Either way, if you don't want this stack then right click on it and select Stacking -> Destroy Selected stacks

Thanks for the suggestion. To the best of my knowledge I've never used stacking. I don't use the Ingest feature. In the process of checking whether stacking is unintentionally switched on in the Verify Folder results for you, I noticed in the Folder view that all the folder icons were a pink/red (like in my 1st screen cap above) - what does that indicate?, and although each folder showed a valid item count, there were no thumbs displayed. The Verify Folder menu item was also disabled? I didn't take a screen cap. I thought maybe the mapping to the base physical folder was wrong, although no reason it should be, so re-selected that. The msgbox said "mapped 0 folders". All category counts went to zero at one stage. I switched to an existing portfolio & thumbs were correctly displayed, and when I switched back to the existing Folders tab the folder icons were back to normal dark grey, counts were restored & thumbs were displayed. So.... after that saga, I can confirm that stacking is & always has been unchecked for Verify Folders Quick.

So I will right click on the thumb above and select Stacking -> Destroy Selected stacks, so partially back to the original question what does the count of 30 mean, with only 1 item(s) in the thumbs view?

It means that 30 images are in one stack and the Default stacks display item in Preferences is set to Stacked rather than unstacked.
Could you have accidentally pressed Shift+S or Control+Shift+S - keyboard shortcuts for stacking - on a selection at some time?

Thanks Jim. Very interesting. Indeed - appears I have accidentally pressed shift+S instead of ctrl+S because when I delete the mentioned stack, I then see 30 thumbs which would have been in the same "Out of Sync" view that I would have intended to save!

correct, that must be the default

I know it's trivial, but drop-down-list comboboxes like in Preferences should be read-only & not support highlighting text or displaying an insertion cursor. Can clicking the combobox result in opening the list rather than selecting text or inserting a cursor?

It does look like an accident waiting to happen! It's a pity all the other letters in "stack" are already taken for shortcuts too   .

I don't see how an accident can happen? The text is read-only. It's just messy for a drop-down-list combobox to allow text to be selected or text cursor to be displayed.

No reply to the above but from reading two other posts it appears to be a bogus folder remapping issue after an upgrade. All sorted now.
