document title is overwritten with the file name

Post by Bongo » 07 Jul 20 17:24

When importing, the document title is overwritten with the file name. It should remain empty. Can I change that?

A general misconception is that title is intended to contain a short caption. That is not the case and what you must use the "Headline" field for.

Title is described in the metadata standards as:
The title of the document, or the name given to the resource. Typically, it will be a name by which the resource is formally known
In other words, the title for how the resource (file in this case) is known...and a file is known by its file name. Photo Supreme, by default, always pre-fills this field when XMP is first created by writing the file name to it, as per standards.

There is registry tweak to switch that off, which I don't recommend because it reduces the level of support of the industry standards.
Find it on this page (search for FileName in Title):

I can live with the workaround. Thank you.
