Postgres - Linux SUSE

Post by rdv4rjm » 13 Feb 19 9:49

Installing new server.

Could PSU run with Postgresql in Linux, SUSE version?

I see Postgres conf file may be edited as in Windows or Mac.

Would it be sufficient to be compatible?

As long as you can configure it according to the installation instructions and the version is 9.3 or 10.x, I would expect it to work. Postgresql is Postgresql.

Am I right to assume that this Linux is installed for some NAS system? Keep in mind that the performance of the database server/service may be drastically impacted by:
1. the speed of the disk(s)
2. the amount (and to a lesser degree the speed) of internal memory
3. the speed of the processor

I recommend using SSD drives for the database file.
I recommend at least 4GB of internal memory is available for the PostgreSQL process.
I recommend using a multi threaded processor with at least 2 processor cores and "sufficient" (boost) speed.

NAS systems don't always comply with above recommendations and so performance may be disappointingly low.

Thanks for confirming my very thoughts.
I am actually looking for a higher rank server.
NAS have indeed disappointed me, on many aspects for different projects.

Will keep you posted on how this project turns out.
