External editor with PSu edits?

Post by Rhod » 11 Jan 19 18:11

Hi - I'm using PSu to do some basic editing such as cropping and some colour correction etc but occasionally I need to do more and for this I'm using Affinity Photo. However, after I've completed some edits in PSu and then open the image in AP, the image opens without the existing edits. In Lightroom there is an option to 'open file with existing edits'. Is this a setting that I've missed somewhere?

Also, when I'm editing (cropping, say) the menu for crop sits on top of the image, so that I have to move it out of the way to get at the handles. Doing this for a batch of images is a real pain. Is there a solution?

I'm well on my way to being Adobe free now! Just a few niggles to sort out.

Yes, the crop dialogue overlaying the image is a bit of a nuisance. I have two other "nuisance behaviours" raised in mantis forever now: https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2931 and https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2922.

As for your question, as you know PSU has non-destructive editing, i.e. it saves the edits as a set of edit instructions - "recipe" - rather than overwriting the original image. The benefits of this are obvious. But for your purposes I think you will have to "materialise" the edits into a file using the "share to folder", as I believe just activating an external tool passes it the original file without applying any recipes (otherwise it would have to cfreate a temporary file).

Thanks Snowman1 - In that case I think I need to work on my workflow and start doing all of the editing in Affinity Photo. Exporting to a folder, then editing in AP wouldn't really work as I'd then need to reimport to PSu.

Interesting re the 'nuisance behaviours'! Thanks.

You can use Verify Folder to scan for the files that you exported in a third party tool

Thanks Hert - I'll give that a go.
