Beta 3.3 version

Post by Hert » 17 Apr 16 21:04

There's now a beta available for Photo Supreme 3.3. Major internal changes were made, not so much outer changes and hence this version is first released as a beta for the visitors here who are willing to use this software with its high risk.

IMPORTANT: Using the linked software below is high risk software where feature can behave unpredictable and hence should not be used by users who aren't willing to risk their catalog by using beta software. Still here? Then start with making a backup of your existing catalog.

If you're still here reading then here are the links:

OSX Stand Alone version: http://www.idimager.com/support/beta/Ph ... eme_V3.pkg
OSX Server version (PostgreSQL): http://www.idimager.com/support/beta/Ph ... SQL_V3.pkg

The beta can be installed over your old version.

Bugs should be posted in Mantis

Here's a list of the minor changes:

   1. Bug: Fixed an issue with writing duplicate structure entries in XMP for a mapped catalog label to a structured element
   2. New: Added native support for the Darwin Core Biodiversity XMP Data. Custom XMP schemas and editors that were created with old IDimagerV4 or IDimagerV5 versions are no longer read.
   3. Better: Editor Fields in the Image Details are now better distinguishable
   4. Bug: DNGs are displayed at correct resolution in the Image Viewer and Light Table
   5. Better: You can now delete entries for date fields in the Image Details
   6. Bug: Fixed an issue with a "jumping" cursor in the Smart Search Box
   7. Bug: Fixed an issue where sqlite generated an access violation under heavy load
   8. Bug: Fixed an issue with application hanging on startup in certain Mac configurations
   9. Better: Added support for .ppm and .pgm files
  10. Better: Updated some of the tips
  11. Bug: Fixed an issue that caused duplicate files to be uploaded to Flickr
  12. Bug: Fixed an issue that caused FTP uploads to fail on Mac
  13. Better: Added ability to select whether or not to use encryption on FTP transfers
  14. New: The Server Edition shows "live" changes made in other open copies of the software
  15. Bug: Fixed an issue that could lead to the application freezing when importing images
  16. Better: The Import Process' performance has improved

Hert,

How long will the beta period run?

As bugs arise, will you post a list that everyone can see?

If I install the beta, can I re-install the current production release? Will my catalog still be readable by the current release if I have worked on the catalog using the new beta version?

Is there any documentation about the major changes in 3.3 beta?

Thanks,

Phil

For as long as it takes.

That is what Mantis does.

Once your catalog is upgraded by 3.3 it can't be used in earlier versions anymore. That includes the current official release.

This is a minor upgrade. There are no major features added in the beta. The major changes are on the inside and of technical nature. I've added a list of the most relevant changes to the opening post

OK; could we go back by restoring the old catalog (etc) files using an operating system restore, and then re-install the current production version? Just in case we had to?

Thanks

Does "importing" include the process of Verifying Folders (which I've experienced also causes application freezing)?

All kinds of application freezing have been worked on in the beta

You can go back to the production version but that requires a restore of the backup made prior to installing the beta

Thanks - nice to have DNG support for full res back again. So far no nastiness introduced.
- no previous experience with Idimager whatsoever...

Hert, can I assume V 3.3 will be a free update once beta testing is completed?

Thanks for the list of the updates you added to your original post.

@Preston; major updates are paid updates. This is a minor update. A major update is when the first number increases

OK on a small test so far. Flickr worked ok - but it was intermittent so needs more testing - and the text handling in the detail panel is definitely improved (a slight improvement again would be if double clicking selected a word as it does in the edit box if the pencil icon is pressed). But so far, good job.
