Then how were the version sets created? I certainly didn't ask for them to be made...

A raw+jpg combination perhaps?

Nope - pure JPGs. No RAWs involved...

Then perhaps the version set already existed in the database? Or maybe you manually invoked the version detection for that folder?

Import module only checks versions based on identical names for JPG and RAW so only examples like IMG1234.JPG and IMG1234.RAW qualify to be stored together in a version set.

Nope again, I think. I don't use version sets, and I certainly wouldn't have manually invoked it on the folder, which only contains JPGs anyway. As I say, I'm at a loss to understand where most of my version sets come from. I can understand it for certain version sets, which indeed would have been created automatically by the import module (in IDI? or in PSU? or both?), because the originals were JPG/RAW pairs; but as for the rest, I have no clue how they came to be.
