Re: Poof crashes / instability

If there's nothing in the PostgreSQL log then the database connection is fine. Maybe you can start a new catalog and import your images to that and see if it's perhaps something in your current catalog that causes the crash. Start a new catalog from the Catalog menu in the hamburger menu. Start impo...

Re: Poof crashes / instability

I do run PostgreSQL on a stand alone machine. But on one machine also on the same machine. Connection timeouts should be no issue because PSU has connection recovery in case a connection is lost.

Did you also check the PostgreSQL logs?

Re: Is increase of database after area detection comprehensible?

I think your images were not all fully imported to the database. 500MB for a >20K images database sounds like very low. Maybe this was an upgraded database from an older version? 1.8GB sounds more like what I would expect for images will average metadata content. You're good. No need to reimport eve...

Re: Batch Rename causes problems

Extracting parts of a date with macro parameters will not work. But you can add date parts by selecting them from the options: MacroWithDescriptionDate.png BTW; I hope you realize that photoshop:DateCreated is supposed to contain the date that the metadata was added to the file. That date should not...

Re: Similar images?

It's a matter of expectation. PSU's "Similar" detection is not intended to find different angled scanned photos. You may get some positive hits depending on how neatly positioned the photos on the scanner were. PSU's "similarity" detection is designed to find images that are identical but look diffe...

Re: Changing size of a dynamic disk ?

"Verify folder Quick" reports changes based on file date+file size. If either of those change then they will be reported. This unlike the "Verify Folder All", which calculates a signature for every file and compares that with the signature in the database. Of course the "Quick" method is faster, but...

Re: Changing size of a dynamic disk ?

Extending a drive will not put all images out-of-sync.
Also a file signature is only based on file details, not drive details. There too, extending the disk will not have an impact.

How did you conclude that all files need to be re-read?

Re: Similar images?

Thank you for sharing the files. The files are not similar because they are too different. The rotation is different, the framing is different. Except from one, they are too different to be considered visually identical. like a downsized copy of the same image, or a b/w version of the original). Or ...

Re: Similar images?

“Similar” doesn’t look at metadata. Only the visual appearance of the image, as explained in my previous post.

Why not share your files so we can check them and confirm if they are identified as similar or not.

Re: Similar images?

Since they are from two different scans, they are not exact duplicates. But what is the definition of "Similar?" How different do they have to be for the algorithm to not consider them similar? Or said another way, how close is close enough to be considered similar? They have to be visually pretty ...

What would probably benefit you is the Cascade Metadata tweak as listed here:
