Re: Upgrade Windows and the C-drive

Harald, First, consider purchasing a mSATA SSD as your primary (OS) drive. I recommend an SSD at least 256GB in size. Second, do a clean install of Windows 10 on the new SSD. With regard to PSu, once you've got your new OS and drivers installed, install PSU and then restore your PSU catalog from a b...

Re: What are the reasons for NOT using DNG instead of NEF (or CR2)?

I tried DNG a long time ago and it didn't offer much for me, except for larger files. Now, I stick with ACR to convert my NEF files and then save them as PSD files. Aside from minor corrections in ACR, I use Photo Shop CS6 for more refined editing. Some of my PSD files from NEF's get pretty large; a...

Re: question about database size

Here's what I am showing... 5249 Images Catdb = 164 MB Thumbsdb = 5.9 GB Image Preview Size = 1680 px Image Preview Quality = 95 % Note: I have a large number of very large high resolution TIFF and PSD files (many well over 1.0 GB). I do not version, nor do I use any custom XMP. Just making a SWAG h...

Re: Help please with installing Supreme -- SOLVED

You're welcome, Mike. Since your installed RAM is working well for your uses, that's excellent. If you need more 'punch', upgrading to 4 GB total RAM will really help. This assumes it's fairly easy to do, both technically, and for your wallet. If you have any questions that are not particularly suit...

Re: Help please with installing Supreme -- SOLVED

Mike, I know this isn't a 'Computer Help' forum, but I have some thoughts you and other PSU users may find helpful. The amount of RAM on your machine is the bare minimum for Windows 10, 32 or 64 bit. The maximum amount of RAM supported by 32 bit Windows is 4 GB, while the amount of RAM supported by ...

Sage advice, sir!

Re: Viewer problems

This could be a video driver issue, and it wouldn't hurt to update your video driver anyway, Peter. (It's always a good idea to keep drivers up to date) Since the issue persists after compacting your PSu databases, and you disabled 'Load full-size image', I am thinking this could be a RAM issue. I s...

Re: How do I sync metadata to my external harddrive files?

Is it as simple as right clicking my folder and verifying it when the external harddrive is connected? That should do it. I would close PSu, connect the drive and then restart PSu just to be safe. Once you've done that, verify the folder(s). If you have a lot of images, it could take a while, so be...

Re: PhotoSupreme takes forever to start up--is this normal?

It sounds like you've got a good backup scheme, Janet. Having your catalog and thumbs databases backed up to the same external drive is a good way to go. You could even create a partition on the external drive specifically for your PSu back up. That way it would be easy to keep track of the size of ...

Re: PhotoSupreme takes forever to start up--is this normal?

Janet, a flash drive will work, but I'd suggest a large USB external hard disk. This disk would be used to create an image of your entire primary drive for disaster recovery, and could also be used for backup of your PSu catalog and thumbs databases. If you would like any suggestions on this, you ca...

Re: PhotoSupreme takes forever to start up--is this normal?

Janet,

Good to hear you backed your Catalog before compacting. It's a good idea to backup your thumbs DB every once in a while, especially if you make changes to the image files.

I took a look at your website. You have some very nice work there.

Re: PhotoSupreme takes forever to start up--is this normal?

Happy to hear the compact DB worked.

It's also a good idea to run a backup of your catalog and thumbnail DB's (preferably to another drive), before compacting...just in case something awry.

Re: Export Portfollios, collections to lightroom

To do it manually select photos already in a Portfolio Collection, go to the Details Panel, enter %CatalogPortfolioList in the Job Identifier field and click on OK. That would work, but there is a possible downside that I can see. If he removes the image from the collection, the %CatalogPortfolioLi...

Re: How to Show External Drives in 'Folders' View?

Thanks Gents, I did as sanphotgn suggested. I created a 'Test' folder in S:, copied a PSD file to it in Windows File Explorer and then imported that file into PSu. It worked like a champ! Now, all I have to do is create the folder structure I need in S: and move the images and verify the folders I c...
