Re: Difference between supreme and IDI5

Dismayed - why not try it? That's what I did. So far, PSU is holding up well - for my usage patterns.

Re the William and Billy conundrum, what about using synonyms? It might help...

Edit: Mike, you beat me to it. Yes, PSU allows synonyms. Searching on labels returns hits on both the label and its synonyms...

Re: Is the Label Assignment Panel alone sufficient?

I must admit that I found the LAP in V5 to be sufficient for my needs. I stopped using the Catalog Explorer in Assignment mode very quickly once the LAP became available. When tagging, if the Label I wanted wasn't listed in the Recently Used set, then typing in a portion of the term was enough to th...

Re: Area Regions in PSU

Well, I have no idea what was going on - it MUST have been that I used Picasa on my test image somewhere along the line, and it had created the MWG metadata. I could have sworn that it wasn't there when I used PSU to create the Area Regions, and so I was delighted when I thought that PSU had created...

Re: Area Regions in PSU

Hert, truly bizarre - I used PSU to add two face regions to a photo, and MWG metadata was definitely created! No other DAM product was running at the time, I'm sure... I'll take another look at this.

And I will definitely submit a feature request for MWG metadata....

Thanks

Area Regions in PSU

Can I just give three cheers to Hert for PSU's implementation of Area Regions in PSU? As far as I can see, he has implemented the metadata standard for Area Regions proposed by the Metadata Working Group . As far as I'm aware, this makes IDimager only the second company to deliver an implementation ...

Re: Photo Supreme wins my vote

Tom, thanks for your post. They are not "ramblings", but some very good points, that resonate with me and my situation. I've been using IDI for longer, for almost six years, but, like you, I came to it after trying a long list of alternatives. As a long-term user, I was really sideswiped by the sudd...

Re: Dynamic Searching. How?

Hert, I'll stop this now. It will be clear to those to whom this scenario matters that PSU won't do it. That will be a factor in their decision as to whether to jump ship or not.

Re: Dynamic Searching. How?

Er, I suspect that the scenario for some people, and one of the reasons why they chose IDI, is that they end up with 900 images of Andy and Cecil and other people, and want to find the 9 with just Andy and Cecil.

Re: Catalog state - Stacking

Because IDI is the product we are familiar with - and it's the product we chose because it came closest to fulfilling our requirements. I've looked at, and rejected, many other products, and ended up with IDI.

Re: Dynamic Searching. How?

The ability is to be able to query 1,000's of images ( that may or may not contain named individuals who may appear singly or in groups), and to find photos that have only person A and person B in them. PSU cannot do this, unless you EXPLICITLY exclude ALL named individuals who are not person A or p...

Hert/IDimager wrote:But can we please discuss PSU here and not IDI?

Hert
It's a point of comparison that most of us here are familiar with. And since we are trying to find out the capabilities of PSU, it's only natural that IDI becomes a reference point.

Re: Dynamic Searching. How?

In PSU, if I exclude all the labels under People (by excluding the "People" category itself), that seems to override adding the labels for Andy and Cecil to the dynamic search, and I get zero results... That makes sense. People is a higher level of grouping compared to Andy and Cecil. So include ev...

Re: Dynamic Searching. How?

Hert, what you suggest doesn't work. If I want to find pictures that only have Andy and Cecil in them, and no-one else, I can't use PSU to construct that sort of search, whereas with IDI I can... In IDI, I can start by excluding all the labels under People (by excluding the "People" category itself)...
