Re: Multiple placeholders differnt images

Perhaps I'm mistaken but from what I've experienced it seems that version detection is based solely on file names. I beg to differ. As I wrote earlier in this thread, sometimes Version Detection will assemble a set from similar file names and sometimes it won't. There's no apparent rhyme or reason ...

Re: Multiple placeholders differnt images

It seems to me as though the Version Detection engine of PSU gets confused at times. I've recently been reorganizing my photo archives, and importing them afresh into a new hierarchy of (Windows) folders organized by date, i.e. YYYY YYYY-MM YYYY-MM-DD As part of the import process, I use the built-i...

Re: Should I jump from IDI to PS?

I'll leave it to others to answer your specific questions re NAS usage, I'll just throw in a few observations. First, while you mention face tagging, you don't specifically mention descriptive tagging and other metadata. To my mind, this is where PSU wins hands-down over any other DAM I've used. If ...

Re: PSU not sychronizing catalog label change

On my system, using WLPG to add a Tag to a JPEG image will definitely cause WLPG to write Keyword metadata into XMP. My PSU will also pick it up and use it to assign a Catalog label to the image. What I suspect is possibly happening is that Elisabeth has not got PSU set up to "Replace Catalog Labels...

Re: External HDDs and File Management

Hert, that tip that is referred to is now outdated (the quoted text is no longer accurate). If you don't see any use for writing down drive serial numbers, then perhaps that tip should be amended or removed.

These sort of outdated/invalid tips may possibly be doing more harm than good.

Re: Batch renaming

Today, I had another opportunity to do some continuous shooting - and I had examples of shots being taken within the window of one second. When I came to import them, I found that only the first shot would be imported and renamed (using the built-in rename file with date/timestamp rule) - subsequent...

Re: Auto Update of existing folder

Being pedantic, that's an "update of existing folder", it's not an "Auto update of existing folder".

I take it that PSU only supports this manual operation at the moment, there's no way to have it automatically scan the file system for changes?

Re: System Recommendations

Tom, I went to Windows 8 almost a year ago, and have never considered going back to Windows 7. There are lots of improvements under the covers in Windows 8 over Windows 7. I've not found any software that would run on Windows 7 that will not run on Windows 8. Yes, the removal of the Start Button and...

Re: assign new label with path

Oh, and while the LR hierarchy is a de facto standard, it is also a proprietary one (under the control of a single vendor: Adobe). The Metadata Working Group (which includes Adobe and Microsoft) have proposed an alternative open standard. Trouble is, of course, no vendors have currently adopted it. ...

Re: assign new label with path

My recommendation to everyone is, stop using delimited keywords and start writing Lightroom keywords. This is the best strategy toward future interoperability I hear you, but unfortunately, in my particular case, adopting it would break my current interoperability. So I ain't going to do it. Not un...

Re: assign new label with path

Regarding delimited keywords, I thought using them could be useful for sorting in other programs when the person doesn't have photo supreme and only wants to look thru the photo set. A good example would be windows live photo where you would set the "/" as the delimiter. I am trying to understand "...

Re: Batch renaming

Post your naming rule here so we can have a look at it. I use the built-in "Filename as Date-timestamp" rule. When I had the error ( and reported it here ), I was using the built-in "Filename as Date-timestamp" rule copied from IDI and pasted into PSU. Now I just use the rule that is built-in to PS...

Re: Batch renaming

I have a feeling that there's a bug here. I recall that a few months back, when I did some action shots with continuous shooting, that only the first photo of a one-second time slice would get imported. The rest would remain on the camera memory card. And yes, I have a date&time renaming rule in the...
