Fast Navigation of the Catalog Hierarchy?

In IDI, there was a Label search box above the Catalog hierarchy in the Catalog Explorer. I could use it to quickly jump to a particular Label buried deep in the hierarchy. In PSU, there is no such search capability. Using the search box on the top right, although it will return hits from the Catalo...

Re: Catalog state - Stacking

Alright, so there is a difference between "Versioning" and "Stacking". And the Help file tells me how to do Versioning.

But how do I Stack images? The Help file is silent on this. In IDI, I would select the images and right-click to get the Stack command. There's no such command in PSU...

Re: Compacting database

In Preferences, and the Catalog section, there are "Compact" buttons for both the Catalog and Thumbnail databases. They definitely work.

Re: Thumbnails appear in random order and other problems

One of the first problems I find is, when I'm viewing the Catalog "By Folder", when I select a folder, the thumbnails of the images in the folder are displayed completely at random, with no reference to either their file number or date/time of creation. Have you tried setting the sort order by clic...

Re: Filter by Date Range

Tom, yes you're right it would be useful to be able to have a date range as a search criteria. Actually, if you're using Windows 7 or Windows 8, then you can actually do this directly in Windows Explorer. In the search box, just enter "datetaken:" (without the quotes), and then you can search on eit...

Re: how do you "just simply rename" an image?

The rename dialog strikes me as a clumsy and complex way of renaming a file. First of all, CTRL+SHIFT+R to bring up the dialog is already a barrier, because I have to remember it, while double-clicking on the thumbnail name is straightforward, and is the same behavior as in Windows Explorer and many...

Re: how do you "just simply rename" an image?

if you just double click on the file name under the thumbnail it opens up for editing. It would be a good idea to make a copy of two images in an isolated test folder. Change the name of the second file to the name of the first file. Determine whether any damage is done. I've tried it - and somethi...

Check the "Apply import detail profile". It allows you the same flexibility as with IDI.

So it does!

I can also drag and drop images between folders. Er, did it always do this?

Re: Watch Folder

BTW, thinking about this issue - I had an example yesterday when I had created a couple of sub-folders under a folder that was known to PSU. Since these new folders were not listed in the PSU Catalog/Folder view, I right-clicked on the parent folder, and chose Verify Folder. I got the message asking...

If the Task Manager says that PSU is consuming 0% CPU, then PSU is definitely frozen.

Re: how do you "just simply rename" an image?

I think that this inability to easily rename an image is yet another consequence of the decision to remove File Manager capabilities from PSU. While the decision was probably made to streamline the capabilities of PSU over IDI (which is a Swiss Army knife on steroids), I wonder if removing file mana...

Re: Mapping Labels to Iptc Location Created

Tom, If the discussion we're having is useful to you, then I'm perfectly happy to continue. There's a lot of power and flexibility in these tools, and, as you say, some of the trade-offs are not always apparent at first. And thanks MikeP for illustrating the fact that when using the Catalog, you can...
