Re: GEO tagging issues

Hi Frank, Despite using a different catalog hierarchy, PSU correctly reads my label hierarchy and places the newly generated label where it belongs! That's great news. I still need to experiment a bit more to see if this is always the case, but at least in one instance PSu generated the label in the...

Re: unusually fast synching?

Neither do I use auto-sync nor have I updated to the latest build, but I disagree that the reported behaviour is desirable: imho, the auto-sync contract should ensure that all images eventually get in-sync (unless externally changed), no matter which PSU actions have triggered the OOS flag. Maybe He...

Re: Mapping England and United Kingdom

P.S. Regarding Canada: administratively, "Newfoundland and Labrador" is the official name of a single province, but I would personally like to further distinguish between pictures taken in Newfoundland and pictures taken in Labrador (which are geographically distinct). The standard IPTC fields do no...

Re: Mapping England and United Kingdom

IPTC was largely developed in the US which is unfortunately somewhat infamous for being ignorant towards the rest of the world, but dominates the PC industry. At least they did call that level province/state, recognizing that Canada is separate country, not subdivided in states but provinces... :wi...

Re: Upgrade Desktop -> Server Edition

I am surprised. I would have thought there was no fee to make the switch from standalone to server and a license would equally be valid for both editions. Frank, I'm surprised you're surprised. I would have thought that paying a set amount for any supported product or service should never come with...

Re: GEO tagging issues

In my case I do have tons of images like this: PLACES::Continents::South America:Ecuador::Pinchincha::Quito I guess you could merge Places::Continents::South America with Places::South America. But maybe you even shoudn't have to do this, but rather (have a way to) instruct PSU to look for the cont...

Re: GEO tagging issues

For me the obvious would be: in the Geo-Panel add an option to save the "Geo-Favorites" as a specifically configured label with the geo-coordinates and the relevant fields filled in. On the surface, your suggestion opens a bunch of questions and seems to add complexity: - Where should Hostal Arupo ...

Re: Remove Mac "." files from Catalog

Hello, Press the View button (top right) and select Grid + Ascending filename sorting. Aren't your .filename.jpg files listed first? If so, then you could easily select and delete them. To list all files in your catalog, you could switch to the Folders tab (next to Catalog) and click the counter on ...

Re: "Out of memory" error at start

"NOT(B)" images are more than 49K so PSU went "Out of memory" and crashed. Ok my fault, but now whenever I try to restart PSU an "Out of memory" error sign appears and the program does not start. :( Don't feel (too) guilty, Roberto: ideally, a robust program (PSU included) should handle such situat...

Re: Changing paths for collections / portfolios

I am not sure what it means, but presume they will be updated immediately. Afaik, the ICS metadata is written when an image gets synchronized. Therefore, updating ICS collection names immediately makes sense only for auto-synch on. (If auto-sync is off, maybe the images are going to be marked as OO...

Re: Additional colour designation for labels in Assign View

Mike, you are definitely right that Auto synch has certain side effects, beyond its main function (storing metadata to the physical files). However, the creation of Miscellaneous labels has a different (simpler) explanation.

Re: Cant seem to import more than 193 images

Hi Luc, what happens if you try the import with a different import profile (created from scratch)? I would also restart the machine, just in case. [OFF TOPIC] I'm not sure why people are so touchy these days. Since I generally try to be helpful, yet occasionally make off-topic remarks (including jok...

Re: Cant seem to import more than 193 images

That's weird. Is there any error or hint given upon importing the lucky 193 images, or did you figure out that magic threshold by yourself?

Re: Changing paths for collections / portfolios

Stephen, I'm glad you found the ICS tip useful; you could thank Hert too, for designing ICS (as a safety backup mechanism) in the first place. It also appears to have a bug, which might have been reported. If you change the name of the portfolio or collection from i.e. pending Paris to 2016-07-07 Pa...
