Re: find files in a version set with different metadata

Hi, I wonder if there is a quick, automatic way how to check if different versions of a set contain different metadata. Nope, since PSU does not include any metadata diff facility or script. Imho, such a facility would be harder to implement than the actual solution (an auto-cascading feature). I r...

Re: designated printing version

You could also create one or more portfolio collections, for printing purposes, and add your images there, as needed.

Re: importing from kphotoalbum

No idea how anyone in his sane mind these days can come up with an image database inside one single XML file. And this is advertised as freeware! Hmm, would you be pleased if the program was payware? To me looks like lock perfect trap to lock you in. It could be worse: imagine kphotoalbum had...

Re: importing from kphotoalbum

Actually, I've just realized that importing from a FVF file will only recreate your hierarchical keyword structure in the PSU catalog. You will still need to associate the catalog labels (roughly, the PSU equivalent of keywords) to your images. Your best bet might be to export your XML file to a CSV...

Re: importing from kphotoalbum

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Some background on kphotoalbum: kphotoalbum stores this information in a xml file, that is quite self-explanatory. e.g. a hierarchy like People>Familie>Sanwald>Aisha looks like: <member-groups> <member category="People" group-name="Familie" member="Sanwald"/> <member ca...

Re: Custom XMP - addititional observations and questions

As Hert rightly points out, if you do not know what you are doing, you can easily ruin your PSu catalog that way... FWIW, I fully agree: messing around with the database outside PSU is simply asking for trouble. You've been warned! :) BTW - are you aware that PSu allows you to fill in entire sets o...

Re: Duplicates, Similar and a NOT filter

Why? I chalk it up to being new to PSU and still using an older established workflow. I will often duplicate an image in order to work with it separately. For example small, medium and large JPG versions destined for different uses. I don't bother changing the names since I always stored them in in...

Re: Duplicates, Similar and a NOT filter

So, you want to maintain some non-versioned duplicates in your catalog (just curious: what's the purpose?) but exclude them from the list. Well, neither is there a standard feature to exclude true duplicates/similars, nor should it be. (That would defeat the purpose of determining duplicates and sim...

Re: Saving space, dups and similar pictures

The detection of duplicate files and similar images is pretty much automatic. If you suspect the Duplicate and Similar catalog states display stale content, then you could try to select the relevant images and then: 1) Sync them (Ctrl+S on Windows) 2) Rebuild their thumbs (Ctrl+Alt+T) You could also...

Re: Duplicates, Similar and a NOT filter

Now is there a way to have PSu ignore RAW+JPG pairs? That is, treat them as a single entity so that neither the Duplicate nor the Similar functions will flag them? If properly versioned, the RAW+JPG pairs should not appear inside Duplicate Files or Similar Images. (I actually had some version pairs...

Btw, you could add a comment to FR #2639, if you're concerned about "unfortunate effects" of label merging.

Re: Using versions

Ah, I see. Here is my take: 1. Indeed, that could be construed as a good use case for allowing different labels for different versions. By design, PSU does not allow that - and it's best to assume that restriction won't be lifted anytime soon. 2. Version placeholders could perfectly serve your purpo...

Re: Can I import key words at a top level?

What is your specific use case and what are your specific concerns?

(IIRC, Hert mentioned many months ago that he had improved the label merging implementation and, in particular, his script for merging duplicate labels.)

Re: hierarchal labels

How exactly did you change A,B,D to A,B,C,D ? Did you simply relocate (drag and drop) label D under label C ? Did you have label D configured to assign the parent labels?
