Re: version tab order and placeholders

Hi Frank, I'm happy to close the circles, but I can't let that go unchallenged: That might be the best solution since the portfolios simply don't do what they were designed for Sorry, but I disagree with your sweeping statement. Barring fancy requirements (mix of versions, etc) and the occasional od...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

If I have a mixture of "print" and "main versions" and then filter for print only the "print versions" are displayed, and the "main versions" are filtered out. What I want is a way to display ALL the print versions, also the ones from the "main versions"... Ok, but that's a completely different col...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Similarly, in the absence of the long-awaited stacking function, I also sometimes use Shift+V to 'stack' (alpha-numerically) unrelated files that versioning wouldn't spot, even if it were improved. Mke, that's an interesting trick - but is there any way to visually mark and distinguish such a "cust...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Frank, I have some good news for you; I have discovered a way to filter all sub-versions with a particular placeholder inside a portfolio collection: 1) Display the collection by clicking on its name, or next to it (...but avoid the image counter like the plague!) 2) Select Filter -> Filter By Macro...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Frank, I guess you're right: we do have an explicit option to detect versions for new files added through Verify Folder, so there's an incremental scenario right there. There's no reason why version detection couldn't include previous versions too - and I would extend that to Shift+V, although the e...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Honestly, my hunch is that versioning has not been designed with incremental scenarios in mind - that is, running either Shift+V or Shift+Ctrl+V on previously versioned images. I don't even know if such scenarios are supported (or should be supported), although that ought to be clarified. Still, the...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

A non-issue, really. All I care for: the existing placeholder assignments should not be removed, when a new version is added receiving its placeholder. How that internally is best achieved, if first placeholders are removed and then re-assigned, no idea. For the user perspective it won't make a dif...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Couldn't agree more. Actually, I am a 99% satisfied customer, resolving the versioning issues is the remaining 1% ...Problem is: solving the remaining 1% often takes 99% of the time :) In my opinion the strict assumption that versioning during import only applies to JPG+RAW pairs is really t...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

If you click the numbers, the main version actually gets displayed in a portfolio, not the subversion that you selected to be displayed there. I've tested this a bit further: the main version gets displayed only if the sub-version was manually selected in the portfolio (ie, by adding the main versi...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Hi Frank, From my perspective it does not make sense to have different settings for version detection during import and during regular version detection (SHIFT+CTRL+V). Perhaps you're right, perhaps not. (See bellow.) During import you can define which image becomes your main version, all others bec...

Re: Import very slow

Hi Jim, Do you have automatic version detection switched on in the import profile? I think that would cause import to slow as the number of images grows. I'm not sure. Does the importer's version detection check against images imported in previous sessions? I thought it did but, judging from a brief...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Not sure I understand what you are suggesting: If you check "apply versioning" during import one might reasonably assume that it does what it says: apply versions! Fair enough. It does not! It versions the files but it does not apply their placeholders as defined in global preferences. The importin...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

Depends what you call "minor" and depends what you call "finally fixed" No, actually, it doesn't. Yes, it does: Finally fixed means: (1) placeholders being recognized according to the file name masks specified in Preferences (2) placeholder assignments not lost when adding a version (3) quick filte...

Re: version tab order and placeholders

As I have tried to emphasize: I am by no means adamant that the tabs be numbered exactly according to their placeholder sequence. It simply would help already to have the sequence be consistent. Well, here's the problem: you refer to a sequence simply because natural numbers (currently used for ver...

Re: Improve Script: Macro Command to Catalog Label

Fortunately, Hert agreed to fix this and add native DwC support to PSu. I'm still in awe that Hert agreed to add native DwC support - and I really hope that his (presumably significant) effort is going to be rewarded by having other customers benefitting from DwC too. That is one reason, why I thou...
