to DxO and back

I sent a JPG to DxO for some processing via the External Application link. After doing some work it was exported back to the original folder with a suffix _DxO to be able to compare before and after, but in order to see it, I had to run a Verify Folders. Perhaps my computer is not the fastest on the...

Re: top level folder not sticky

I had the designated top folder selected and showing in Folder view I closed PSu I opened PSu and they are still showing. I compacted the catalog, both the catalog database and thumbnail database When it completed, I closed PSu I opened PSu and all the NAS drives reverted to their root folder, forge...

Re: designated printing version

Ah, a use for portfolio collections, thanks. Not at my photo computer right now so can collections be nested? Then I could have a master collection for each theme or major subject and inside each one a collection for printing, another collection for ... . OR a master printing collection with a neste...

Re: Duplicates, Similar and a NOT filter

Looks like I still have to get comfortable with versioning. I guess without a solid understanding of what it is and how it works, I'm a bit reluctant to use it. Too bad there isn't a good written guide. I know there is lots of good information and advice here in the forum but I'd first have to find ...

Re: Duplicates, Similar and a NOT filter

Why? I chalk it up to being new to PSU and still using an older established workflow. I will often duplicate an image in order to work with it separately. For example small, medium and large JPG versions destined for different uses. I don't bother changing the names since I always stored them in ind...

Re: Duplicates, Similar and a NOT filter

Hmm, so before doing any processing, that is before any other versions are created, have PSu combine the CR2 and the OOC JPG into version sets. Then they will be ignored in the duplicate test. Sounds like a plan going forward. So there is no way to flag other existing images to also be ignored? Once...

Re: Using versions

Thanks for the naming heads-up, or should I say heads_up. As for using PSu to create them on the fly, will have to give that a think. Perhaps going forward but what about all the years of images that already exist? I was hoping to use its cataloging features to organize the many thousands of images ...

designated printing version

Can a single picture, not part of any set, be designated for printing or is this only possible if it is part of a set? So far, I've defined one of the folder state colors as "Ready for printing" but I wonder if there is a better way.

Label D was moved in the Catalog view categories, from a child of B to a child of C.

Re: Using versions

Thanks for all your tips and answers. I don't exactly understand your use case, but PSU's design dictates that any label assignment applies to the entire version set. That's a hard constraint and I can't imagine any reliable way around it. What I was trying to say is that I have three JPG files made...

top level folder not sticky

I keep setting one of the subfolders on my network drives to top, using "make this the top level folder." Every so often when I click on the Folder view, all the top levels have reverted to the root of the drives. I just completed a compact the database. Not sure if that was the case in previous cas...

Re: What is your workflow?

Most interesting to read how other people are managing their pictures. I'm new to this DAM world so my methods might not be the best but they have served me for many years. Now that I've started with PSu, I'll have to see if there will be any changes. For what it's worth, here is what I've been doin...

Re: displaying version sets

To answer one of my questions, I discovered that in Folders view, the total number of images in the light grey oval of parent folder of a set of folders is the total of all folders and subfolders in that set. When I select the parent folder, the main window only displays those images in the parent f...

Re: Using versions

When I drag and drop one image onto another in order to create a version set, the following dialog appears drag and drop version.JPG Why the check box option at the bottom "always add as a version?" Isn't that what I just did? Is there a reason not to enable this option? I've read the quicksart guid...
