Re: 'Copy' data from custom field to label

Ah, that's where they are to be found! Now I feel silly... It's surprising how blinkered we become, even using PSu most days, but in some select areas only. I never use Catalog Image Details. As custom fields are initially created in the Info panel, that is where I manage them. Now all problems are ...

Re: install v4 and v3 parallel

Thanks Hert. I have a few hundred un-synced files because the originals are offsite. Will their status' be transferred correctly to V4?

Re: 'Copy' data from custom field to label

Many thanks for all of the screenshots, which are helpful. Had I realised the interdependency of ICS and custom fields previously, then I would have never created them and used private labels instead. Before testing as per your suggestion, I'm wondering how I will be able find all files with a custo...

Re: ImportDialog EventName is not working properly

Ralf, you should do another test. I had something similar recently using V3. I just tried again and it looked like the mistake was going to reoccur, but it didn't. I first selected the import profile I wanted. Then I clicked on Custom defined (at bottom) to verify the commands and indeed %EventName ...

Best to make a full backup of your V3 and then install V4 over V3.
Is the regular "Backup PSu data" command sufficient to backup the entire installation? Just checking. Is there a plan B scenario in the unlikely even than I need to revert to V3?

Re: Image Rights management tool

Custom Fields are written to metadata. It is possible to switch off ICS writing in the Sync preferences for Writing. But there's a trade-off. If I switch it off will it 'clean' the data from the files? If so, that could be the way forward. Best way to handle your situation is to either use private ...

Re: Image Rights management tool

When first starting to use custom fields, I'm sure that I followed a tip here that these are located only in the PSu database, i.e. private. I now discover they are not. Also, portfolio information appears to not be private either. Unlike private catalog labels, neither custom fields, nor portfolios...

Re: 'Copy' data from custom field to label

Is the user chosen name of the custom field written to the file or only the variable data entered?

Is the ics:portfolios data also written to the files?

Thanks

Re: 'Copy' data from custom field to label

Custom fields (which is custom XMP), via the Info panel, is written to the file if the setting is set to write XMP to the file. There isn't a setting to make them private. I was unaware about that of custom fields and initially created them believing them to be private. "if the setting is set to wr...

Stephen - I just tried the script in a version 3 database and it didn't work here.
But your signature states that you are using version 3! ???

Re: 'Copy' data from custom field to label

Yes, I want to copy data from existing (private, catalog only) custom fields and create new private labels from them or map to existing private labels. Your screen shot looks like a useful feature when making labels, but I cannot find that feature for custom fields in the Info panel.

'Copy' data from custom field to label

I have been using custom fields to record some confidential data, but not want to transfer this data to labels.

Does anybody know how it could be done please?

Thanks. I am going to post in another thread about copying data from custom fields to labels.
