That should help a lot with performance issues, I'm told. The actual pictures should be OK on an ordinary HDD or even a networked drive, but keeping the catalogue on the fastest disk is generally recommended.

Re: Catalogue icons

Hert, Thank for your reply. I have already experimented with different icon sets, mainly with flags. While most things work "OK" they are always a bit off, which I suppose is due to resampling artifacts when resizing to the category slots sizes. I do have one flag from the original default installat...

Catalogue icons

What are the recommended dimensions for icons selected for categories in the catalogue ? On a related note: Is the flag icon set delivered with the default catalogue downloadable from anywhere? I deleted most of the place hierarchy, as I didn't think I'd ever need it. I would, however, like to add f...

Re: International Characters

Like you, many of my pics have Icelandic person and place names. As long as I remain within the PSU ecosystem, I'm good, but I have had to correct names entered in one of the many DAM alternatives, I have tried out over the years.

Re: Beta 3.3 version

Thanks - nice to have DNG support for full res back again. So far no nastiness introduced.

In which respects...? Are you suggesting in the newer build some features were removed?

Beware, in some respects the update is a downgrade - I wish I could roll back.

Re: Sizing problem with DNG in image viewer

The Option "Load Full Size Images" works only for NEF files, not DNGs. For DNGs PSU's preview panel NEVER loads the full sized image, but ALWAYS the embedded preview (perhaps assuming that DNGs have full-sized previews embedded, which is not necessarily the case). I have been using DNG with full-si...

Re: Can I export RAW or DNG as JPG in any way ?

If you configure the Export to Folder to use a jpg file extension in the naming rule then I expect a jpg output. Ah -finally got it now! It's necessary to edit the File Naming as text, as the menu system otherwise doesn't offer an option to change the file extension. Works for RAW, and I suppose it...

Re: Can I export RAW or DNG as JPG in any way ?

You can use the Export to Folder feature; Ctrl-E on Windows or Cmd-E on OSX. Thanks, I do use the Export to Folder - but I seem to only be able to copy out the same file type (for JPGs with adjustments though) If I try to copy out a DNG, I can only find the option to copy out the DNG itself. I may ...

Can I export RAW or DNG as JPG in any way ?

I might have dreamt this up, but last year I was playing around with DNG-files, and as I recalled it, I was able to export the (full) JPEG preview from the DNG-file to a JPEG. Now I can't find a way to do this, but maybe I never could. It would be nice to use PSU as a RAW manager, and export JPG's a...

Re: Face areas unlinked after re-import and merges

Did you move the person labels under "People" and got rid of the parallel hierarchy? I guess that could explain it. Yup - face area tags seemingly needs to be within the inbuilt "People" top level rather than my self-invented top level category "Personer". I can live with that, but I don't see anyt...

Re: Face areas unlinked after re-import and merges

You probably also had ICS writing switched ON on the old machine. You may want to switch that sync-preference ON again. I didn't have the IdImager ICS schema writing set at my old machine , but I have set it ON now. I'm getting to the point where you can never have too many metadata in your files (...

Re: Face areas unlinked after re-import and merges

I treated myself to a new computer this weekend, and I have moved my pictures to the new computer and re-installed PSU. I did not move the PSU db, just reimported my pictures. Oddly, now all my area tags are automatically and correctly linked to my person-labels (who have been moved to a sub-hierarc...

Re: Face areas unlinked after re-import and merges

Upon further testing, it would seem that most problems with lost/unliked labels are resolved, if person-labels are kept as a subhierarchy within the in-built "People" category rather than my self-inflicted "Persons" category. Would be nice to know, though, whether that's a quirk in the program or th...
