Re: Printing using template

Looks to me like a bug - at first glance it appears to be 'overlapping', but actually the printed images are not shrinking sufficiently to all fit on the page when printing - so some of the images are spilling over. I've tested this '2 column, 3 rows' on 4 pdf printers (though they may all use ghost...

Re: Catalog location on my hard drive

You can check by going to Preferences -> General Settings, then checking the box "show a login dialog on startup", then restarting the program. The location will be shown in the login dialog.

In Windows, by default they go in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\IDimager Systems, Inc

Face (and object?) labelling thoughts

I've been cataloging some old people photos recently, so have been making use of the face detection / labelling features - and I must say that I'm finding it very useful. A couple of enhancements have already been discussed here - providing the facility to output photos with the name labels visible ...

Re: Problem with versioning

There's a setting that determines that :)

Take a look at Preferences -> Catalog -> Catalog settings -> Main version detection method

Re: Should PersonInImage be written to all versions?

Isnt this similar to the "areas tags in versions" issue brought up recently ( http://forum.idimager.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=23589&hilit=areas+version ) ? Wouldnt it depend on how the version was cropped, which means PSU would have to guess? I can see where you're coming from, but no. The labels ap...

Color profile conversion is also possible under 'batch'.

Re: Should PersonInImage be written to all versions?

Well noticed. I see that 'event' is also only being written to the main image too, so looks like a more generalised problem. I've raised a bug report on Mantis (#2737).

Re: Custom input fields: what for? pros and cons?

@Mke: I also consider it useful to use custom input fields as a way to keep info which is specific to versions. At one stage I was experimenting with the idea of using this as a replacement for the placeholder system. Something I was wondering about, but never experimented with: if I send a specifi...

Yes, that's correct.

Re: Labels to keep track of Birthdaycards

As an alternative, I'd suggest that using collections and portfolios for this might be a neater solution. You could create a portfolio such as sentCardToName for each person, containing, for each, the collections birthdayCard, christmasCard, present, etc. Particularly as you select different photos ...

Thanks, I'll take a look! Guess I'll have to change software at some point in the next decade or two, but haven't yet found a satisfactory replacement :)

Re: syncing issues

I would personally be reluctant to use a software as complex as IDI or PSU if it was no longer supported by the developer Though I admittedly don't know nearly as much about software as almost everyone participating here, I really don't understand that logic. If I've been using any software for yea...

Re: Custom input fields: what for? pros and cons?

Like Mike, I would (and do) use catalog labels for all the kinds of examples given. Custom labels are best suited to record information that doesn't have any other natural home - maybe details about to whom and for how long you'd licensed the use of an image / licensing conditions / sale price, for ...

Re: displaying area (face) labels in saved image files

I can see that would be very useful for your purposes, but I'm pretty certain that it's not possible from within PSU. It would also be useful for me when I get around to importing some of my old photos into PSU, so that I can send them around various relatives for verification. So I've added a featu...

Re: Question about applying a headline to version sets

There is a checkbox "Apply to full version set" which I ticked - except that it doesn't do what I was looking for: apply the headline to all images inside the version set :o I've never gotten that setting to work properly. Interesting - I filed a bug report on Mantis about similar problems that I w...
