How is multi-tab browsing different from virtual collections in IDimager?

MH17

[off-topic] The US lost some 3000 people in the 9/11/2001 attack. I read that 173 people from the Netherlands perished on the doomed MH17 flight yesterday. Considering that the Dutch population is smaller, this is similar in scale to the 9/11 losses. My condolences to Hert and all our other friends ...

Re: Working with two computers

Hi Markus, Welcome to the forum. What you describe will work, and you can install Photo Supreme on multiple machines. Since accessing the actual images is very disk intensive, I would suggest putting the catalog and images on a fast USB 3 memory stick rather than a spinning hard drive for best perfo...

Re: Migrating Aperture library to PSU

I just noticed that Apple is abandoning Aperture. They're apparently replacing it with the new photo app coming in OS X Yosemite:

Re: App store vs. direct purchase ...

Welcome to the forum, Montanan. Hert has said in the past that Apple checks the program thoroughly each time he uploads an update, no matter how minor. This can result in a delay. If you buy directly on the other hand, you can download updates as soon as they are available. As far as I know, that's ...

Re: Migrating Aperture library to PSU

Very clear explanation of delimited keywords and keyword hierarchy, Hert. Thanks for that from me as well.

Re: Confused about Portfolios and Collections

When writing to the image files when using the IDimager ICS scheme is enabled, I believe the catalog can be rebuilt including the Portfolios and Collections by enabling the reading of that scheme in the files. It might be helpful for Hert to clarify this. Hi Mike. I didn't think so, but I'm willing...

Re: Confused about Portfolios and Collections

In addition to what Hert said, another major difference is that portfolios/collections are only in the database, whereas labels can be written to images as keywords.

Re: Using Photo Supreme with Lightroom?

Hi Ed, Another challenge is to see edits from LR in PSU. LR writes it's edits as a set of editing parameters and only adobe tools will be able to interpret those edits. This means that you won't see your edits in PSU (or any other non adobe tool for that matter). Some use a DNG workflow to get aroun...

Re: Update causes problems

I'm pretty sure that Frank is right that it's the card reader. My son brought his HP 1530 all-in-one home from college and when I hooked it up to my computer, I got similar error messages. As Hert says, Windows is reporting a drive and PSU or IDimager tries to monitor its file system.

Re: idimager.thumbs.db - 40 GB size?

Yes, newer SDDs are less prone to failure, but even they will not last long if all write cycles are confined to a very small part of the disk because everything else is full. Hi Frank. That's not my understanding of how solid state drives (SSD) work. Except for the very oldes ones, they have a sche...

Re: Yet another PS and Lightroom question...

I was running into some unexplained failures when using auto-sync and updating the DNG previews/metadata in LR - the edits and changes would appear just great in LR and any other DAM program I used (I once did a test with 4 other DAM programs all running along side Idimager for a few days) - but id...
