Re: How to transfer (just) star ratings from an old catalog

Thanks Mike. It's a good thought but unfortunately in this case I think it's actually more work. Two reasons: 1. In the past I had very inconsistent meanings for a given star rating at different times. 3 stars in 2012 meant something quite different from 3 stars in 2007. (In the earliest days, there...

Re: Colour management setting (using two different monitors)

Thanks Mike On a point of detail, PSu does allow me to turn "Display Color Management" off - it's a switch at the top of the Display Color Management sub-tab in the preferences. PSu allows me to select either monitor profiles or colour spaces as the output profile. Is that just because the two kinds...

How to transfer (just) star ratings from an old catalog

[2nd go at posting this ... I thought I was posting earlier, but it turned out I was just typing into the void. Thanks, PCCW Broadband!] I have accidentally overwritten the star ratings on about 1000 images with the single rating "3". Tracing back through the backups I see that this happened about a...

Colour management setting (using two different monitors)

I have two monitors (one built in to the notebook, the other external. The (Windows 7) operating system already has a color profile assigned to each monitor. The two profiles are different, and are a result of a color calibration process for each screen separately. In spite of reading and re-reading...

Re: Recommended Label- and Synchronize- Settings

Maybe I can help, David. Mike, as always, very helpful indeed. Thank you!! The ICS scheme stores all sorts of catalog information, not just keywords. --> This is the key info I didn't know. So writing out (and perhaps one day needing to read in) the ICS scheme makes sense even with the hierarchical...

Re: Recommended Label- and Synchronize- Settings

Thanks Hert for that advice ... but could I ask for a bit more? Let's assume I am always writing out Lightroom hierarchical keywords. Read settings 1. What does " Always convert IPTC keywords to XMP keywords first " do? If it's "first", what are the actions that come afterwards? In what situation do...

Re: Search Logic #3

Anyway if in the end I don't like the search logic, there will usually be a workaround by using temporary (private) labels to designate the intermediate results of the search. The label approach fails if I'm looking for specific versions within a set (unless one day we get version-specific labels). ...

Re: Search Logic #3

Thanks Jim, indeed I guess I saw the reference in the manual now that I think about it. I just couldn't remember where. I think (although not 100% certain) that the SQL logic implementation will be Boolean, so there needs to be a translation from the PSu search query to a Boolean expression for the ...

Re: Managing Versions Mk III - WIP

As an indication of the time taken for refreshing the thumbs script ... it's on the order of 4 seconds for a (worst case for me) new screen full of about 200 thumbs. But normally I have 20-30 thumbs on a screen so it's not a problem. That's with Win7 64bit on an i7 running at 2.10GHz - there are 4 d...

Re: Search Logic #3

Interesting thought, Jim. It makes sense although it creates some cases which feel odd to me. An example of an odd case, if that's what's happening Suppose I have the list of numbers 1..8 What do I get with OR(odd numbers; exclude numbers greater than 4) --> Start with nothing; then get 1,3,5,7; the...

Re: How to find all Version Sets with exactly N files?

Thanks Hert. In the meantime I'll save any script files via a text editor. The discussion in this thread has been very useful to me. Experiments will continue (*) and will no doubt result in more questions, but this one now seems to be answered. ... David (*) ... but for the rest of today I should c...

Re: How to find all Version Sets with exactly N files?

Thanks Hert, I appreciate the quick explanation of the underscore. (I had previously noted some underscores in old IDI scripts, and previously thought the underscore vs no underscore was somehow a change made in going from IDI to PSu. Now I think I understand better. I would put myself in the class ...

Re: Custom input fields + Versions + assignment = confusion

In further testing I have found no problems assigning lots of Custom Input Field values when in Offline mode. But it still seems to be true that in Online mode: - Assigning values to custom input fields immediately triggers a file operation, even though "automatically write out Catalog changes to th...
