Version Placeholder search logic

Help! What's the logic of Version searches? I am confused by the results of Version Placeholder searches in PSu. I can't find a way to explain it unless I assume that searching for "Version Sets" means different things depending what it's combined with. Consider my database which has 1318 files whic...

Re: How to find all Versions without Placeholders?

Here's the "easiest" I could come up with. (It is made a bit easier in my case by the fact that I know I only have two Placeholders assigned: Main and Album Display. Otherwise I would need to repeat step 5 for every additional Placeholder that's in use.) Warning: convoluted labelling logic ahead ......

Re: How to find all Versions without Placeholders?

Thanks Hert for quick response. I thought of that idea too, but it doesn't work as expected. It produces 684 results (including all Main Versions) rather than the 50 I was hoping for. I don't really want to go through and find them one by one, although as it happens it's (sort of) feasible. If I try...

How to find all Versions without Placeholders?

The only Placeholders I use at present are Main and Album Display. And I know there are exactly 50 files in my catalog which are Managed Versions but are not assigned a Version Placeholder. So how do I find them? (Every Version Set in my Catalog has a Main Version and an Album Display Version. 50 Ve...

Re: Tips for working with Photo Supreme

Example of Custom Thumbs info script: Coloured version indicator and a row of stars ( Note 2014-02-03 for PSu v2 , there is no need for the vertical offset specified in this and some other scripts. Remove unwanted occurences of <ind y="2"> and </ind> from the code to fix the vertical position of th...

Re: Use a custom input field to control which version to dis

Thanks Tom Regarding the first of your two main paragraphs , suggesting using placeholders as a possibly easier solution ... Actually I think my workaround is quite easy to set up. I don't think it's harder than assigning files to the correct placeholders. And if files are assigned to specific place...

Re: Use a custom input field to control which version to dis

In my testing of whether these versions in fact get used beyond the CV (as of the date of writing) Previews don't display the intended version BTW I note that although this shows the correct versions in the CV then the wrong version is displayed in the preview, similar to an existing reported issue ...

Use a custom input field to control which version to display

(File under "suggestions". But I'll wait for feedback from others before adding to the hints thread.) The idea is: every file which you want to see as a display version gets a "Y" in a custom input field. Then you can search or filter on the "Y". This seems to work. But ... No guarantees, etc etc He...

Re: How Do I Search by File Name?

OK! Now I understand why searching for "_000454" returns results including a file which has ":000454" as a string in an xmp field.

Re: Search doesn't return expected results

Just to add ... I can meet my original objective by adding the label "YV2Display" to the main version of every image that does not have an album display version, and then filter on the text "YV2Display". However that may create some headaches for ongoing maintenance. I will post about this in a sepa...

Search doesn't return expected results

I'm trying to find a way to display for a group of images the following versions: - Album Display Version if it exists - Main Version if there is no Album Display version. I'm trying to set up a favourite search for this so that I can use it as a filter or as part of a dynamic search later. I was su...

Re: How Do I Search by File Name?

Interesting ... a contrasting data point: if I enter characters from the middle of a filename, I DO find the files. eg 00454 finds 20100809_004541_0070.DNG and one other file which has 00454 as a substring in one of the xmp fields. and searching for 00454@catitem.filename finds only that one file 20...

Re: Automatically assign custom place holder

An idea. I don't know whether it works as I haven't tested it (no time, as usual).
Maybe you could remove the relevant Raws from the database, then re-import them, setting the versioning on import so that new versions are assigned to the placeholder you want.

Re: How to get the slideshow I want?

Thanks Hert for addressing this question in Build 1.8.2.136. As yet I think there's some problem: - If I press P, thereafter new images usually appear behind the one which was showing when I pressed P. However, I can't quite see the pattern here - once (I think) the new image appeared over the top o...
