Re: Bad Image Quality

Although it's hard to tell from the description I'd suggest the original problem is due to PSU being set to not use the full size image (*) and probably in conjunction with a small thumbnail size(**) Sherwood, JPG is lossy - the amount can be varied - PNG is not lossy but takes more space, RAW is no...

Re: Fast Picture Viewer Pro for fast cull before import into PSu?

I notice a few people saying they clone their memory cards to a backup. In case it helps anyone, the PSU import options allow you to make a clone copy of the files imported. I use this to clone the card automatically. That is, the import makes a main copy of the images to one disk, these are the one...

Re: Uploading to Flickr - not going as planned

Hi Hert, that is a very useful tip, thank you!
I haven't been flickring much lately but I often do use portfolios, so I'm surprised I've had the issue - perhaps it's been on those occasions when I synched from a catalog label view instead - I shall make sure I use portfolios next time.

Re: Uploading to Flickr - not going as planned

The lack of sorting can be frustrating. It is often - perhaps nearly always - the case that pictures need to be uploaded in chronological order to make sense to viewers, but PSU uploads in no particular order (that I can see). Maybe this is in part due to multi-threading of the uploader. My own faul...

Re: Geotagging using GPX woes

I have not encountered any issues, so I'm pretty confident it works (but see later). When you say "in batch" I assume you mean using batch processing or using the Geotag panel and selecting >1 image. Once you have figured out the correct time offset - which I agree can be challenging - it works fine...

Re: how to dynamically build or alter a search argument

I find myself with a use case for macros in the search bar. I am interested in searching for images that have GPS info. I can to some extent simulate this if I know the approximate lat or long, by using - for example - "3@XMP.exif:gpslatitude" (and I only need enter the most significant digit of the...

reverse geonames lookup

In another thread I mentioned the following: I did notice ... that one of my recent images actually gave no information other than state (England) and country (UK) when I did the reverse lookup - this seemed really strange. It didn't even fill in the country code. I tried the operation with other im...

Re: Places hierarchy and labels generated from geotags

To be fair you've got to rename them as badly as I did for it to really matter

Re: Please help me develop a workflow

Great post Frank, thanks. Good link as well. According to that, the US practice of "Selective Availability" that degraded civilian accuracy on a global basis was ended by Bill Clinton in May 2000, so I was very out of date on that - I must have missed that one in the news! As regards the European sy...

Re: Places hierarchy and labels generated from geotags

Update: I have had a dig in my database and this has confirmed that I did indeed, a very long time ago, rename events to places and vv. So, boys and girls, learn from my mistake and don't do this very silly thing! I can only think it was a cunning plan to re-order the categories. Oh well, it looks l...

Re: Places hierarchy and labels generated from geotags

Good piece of digging Michael, good info, thanks. It seems a strange thing for me to have done, but then it was probably more than 10 years ago; I was only just starting to use and experiment with idi as it was then; idi didn't have geotagging; and I certainly didn't have a phone with GPS! Incredibl...

Re: Places hierarchy and labels generated from geotags

@Tom - many thanks, that has worked. @Frank - yes that was my suspicion as well. It was all a very long time ago and I can't recall the exact details of what I did and didn't do back then. But I have been experimenting and the results were consistent with this hypothesis. No matter what I did, label...

Re: Please help me develop a workflow

Seconds will be recorded in the exif information though, so as long as the phone can be made to display seconds you can ascertain the difference. But as I've already mentioned I would expect the GPX file to contain the time as derived from the GPS signal (from the atomic clocks on board the satelite...

Places hierarchy and labels generated from geotags

In the past I have only sporadically done reverse lookups to populate place names for images. I intend to go back and do this more rigourously now. However I have discovered something odd is happening - the generated labels are ending up under "Events" instead of "Places". So I am ending up with lab...
