Re: What's Going To Happen To IDI Version 5?

It's not an option for an exit strategy, Craig. It was never designed to be an exit strategy. Describing a car as being a limited air-transportation strategy is no worse than describing ICS as being a limited exit strategy. Mike, when did I ever say it was an option for an exit strategy? I said PSU...

Re: What's Going To Happen To IDI Version 5?

I think you have the facts right but to call ICS a limitation is probably due to a misunderstanding of the primary benefit of using the ICS. If everything that could go wrong does go wrong and if you have synched your catalog with your physical image files, you will be able to automatically restore...

Re: What's Going To Happen To IDI Version 5?

Craig, I'm curious that you say that LR "has an exit strategy". I recently took a look at Lightroom 4, and concluded that it was not good at playing with other tools : Geoff, small world - I read that piece while I was searching for inspiration on how to go about testing how I could migrate to Ligh...

Re: What's Going To Happen To IDI Version 5?

Moving folders around within the catalog folder structure can easily be implemented in PSU, as can folder creating within catalog folders. This would be a very welcome addition and, given your later reassuring comments, the one big thing that is still missing for me. If you were able to make a comm...

Re: What's Going To Happen To IDI Version 5?

HERE IS MY QUESTION: is there any rational (apart from emotional) reason, why you disregard Photo Supreme as your DAM, and consider such software as Lightroom instead? For me there there are two main issues with PSU: 1. Lack of a comprehensive File Manager 2. No obvious exit strategy Although I hav...

Re: What's Going To Happen To IDI Version 5?

the only downside with iMatch is the development and response time. V5 has been in the works a long long long time. I looked at it years ago, but went with idi. Looks like I'll have to look again! LOL Funnily enough I migrated from iMatch to IDimager about 3 years ago. Up until then I'd run with it...

Re: file-manager

Like JimiV I am also thinking of using lightroom although from what I have seen of it so far it lacks a lot of what made IDI great and I think the migration is going to be a big issue. I'd rather not abandon IDI but I also worry about the future (new OS and cameras plus software changes to Photoshop...

Re: file-manager

I think they are just trying to go for the bigger market share as we Pro's are a limited lot, and they do need to maintain a revenue. Jim, I quite understand and support Hert when it comes to new products to ensure the survival of his business, but the death of IDimager came out of the blue yesterd...

Re: file-manager

Craig, Will IDimager support continue & will outstanding bugs be addressed? IDimager is discontinued, so the answer is no. Well that's a real shame because you have killed off one of the best DAM systems a working professional could ask for and replaced it with a toy. I wish you luck with PSU, but ...

Re: file-manager

PSU is a DAM tool, not a File Manager. Use a File Manager for this; for instance Windows Explorer. Sorry Hert, but that's a ridiculous statement. File Management is part of the DAM process. DAM systems manages files so how the can you say File Manager is not part of a DAM system. It might not be at...

Re: Sadly lacking ...

You can't create more. You can select multiple images, add them to the Image Basket, go to the IB, select all, cut/paste them to a portfolio, But that adds considerable overhead to my workflow. I have several virtual collections in IDimager. Each one represents a queue of images that need uploading...

Re: file-manager

Without the old file manager how I can create new folders? Also how can I see the total size of all images in a folder - I need to know this so that my folders don't grow larger than the backup medium they mirror? How can I move multiple folders? These are all regular housekeeping tasks I need to be...

Re: Sadly lacking ...

Mi Mike, Yes you are right. I'd not got that far to realise they're pretty much useless now - just another portfolio really. Having invested literally hundreds of hours versioning the majority of my important images over the past few years, I'm thoroughly hacked off to discover it's had all it's pow...

They are there, but they've moved. Look under CATALOG --> By Portfolio

Versioning seems to have been severely crippled though. I can't see any way to synchronise metadata to all versions in a set. Utter madness!
