Re: New User - Managing Metadata

Maybe what I need to do is a full back up of the family stuff before I touch it, then put that away someplace safe, and then incorporate the tagged family files into my normal 3-2-1 backup scheme. That would be my choice. But before that, be sure that you're happy with your file naming scheme, so t...

Re: New User - Managing Metadata

There's a logic to keeping two separate catalogues, however I'd suggest starting with one, then splitting it later. That's because you're likely to spend a good deal of time building your label hierarchy, and it's easiest to do that just once - unless you think the labels / keywords for the two cata...

Re: Version selection for selected items ?

You're right, you can't use the placeholders to change the versions being displayed on the fly. However you can easily set the main version as you wish in the configuration, and at least Tom and I have our processed files set as the Main Version, and separate other versions using a hierarchical fold...

Interesting to hear how you've been getting on. Since it works off-line I'll try to find some time to test it out over the summer. Could certainly do with something to make tagging easier.

Divide up the RAWS any way you choose - by date; by hour; by dragging and dropping half into a temporary folder, etc.

Re: Version selection for selected items ?

No, it's not you, but take a look through Mantis first - there are already several related proposals on the topic, such as these: https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2525 https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2633 https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2964 And some lengthy discussions on her...

Re: Multicore support for batch processing

Welcome to the forum.

If you try running 2 / 3 / 4 batches together, I think you'll find that 2 / 3 / 4 cores are used respectively - 1 core per batch. So you may find it quicker to split whatever you're doing into smaller simultaneous batches.

I have gotten into the habit of making my jpeg's the main version by default during version detection
Indeed, I should have added that was what I do, in conjunction with the folder arrangement above. In the absence of more functional placeholders within version sets, I find it a good workaround.

Re: Version selection for selected items ?

I keep RAW files and other originals in subdirectories, separate from processed JPGs & TIFFs in the main directory, so am able to then select from only a specific folder (or all), and also find it useful for processing:

|
|-directory
||_RAW
||_DNG
||_etc.

Re: develop changes not showing

Hi peterpix, I imagine that's because DxO's proprietary code is required to properly interpret the image. Personally I always have DXO edit support set to "None". If I edit in DxO then I export a JPG / TIFF from DxO and import it into PSU - that way I can see both the true result of the edit and the...

Re: misusing synonyms

What you're trying to do sounds similar to this feature requested in Mantis, I think?

Add a new label setting: "Also assign the related labels" - https://mantis.idimager.com/view.php?id=2603#c6028

Re: DxO PhotoLab anyone ?

I've also been a DxO user for several years, including PhotoLab 2 Elite since it launched, purely for RAW processing (which it does very well). As noted above though, support for Android phone DNGs isn't there yet - but DxO have said on their forum that it is in their pipeline - see https://feedback...

Try ExifTool: https://sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
...with, in Windows, ExifToolGUI if you're not keen on the command line: http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/~bogdan/

I gather that there is similar GUI software for the Mac

Re: develop changes not showing

Be aware that it's not possible for all edits to show up because such programs use proprietary technology - see viewtopic.php?f=57&t=24375&p=114298&#p114298 (which talks about DxO, but the same applies to Lightroom and CaptureOne).

Re: Have a category workflow status similar to the folder workflow status; similarly for timeline

Personally I use folder colour codes for that, moving images between folders as I go - though I tend to work complete multiple tasks on smaller batches, rather than separating them into so many stages.
