Re: some advice needed how to manage an unusual image collection

A few random thoughts, all of which I am sure you have already thought of: - Do the spots need to be marked up on the image or will labelling be adequate? I'm guessing the former in which case... - if you will continue to "label" the spots in photoshop then is there any advantage to also m...

Re: New feature in build 4494: Catalog Label Details->GEO Details >Forward lookup

Reverse Lookup from the Geo Panel, to handle multiple images - agreed, I've always thought the current behaviour unintuitive, though since, as you say, the possibility exists from the right click menu I've never thought of it as a big issue. But if anything the right-click option should act on a si...

Re: How do you handle GPS-info and location labels?

As I understand it the way that PSU has been designed to work is to copy your catalog, plus those few images you need to work on, to the laptop. Your catalog is the heart of your information and PSU understands when images in the catalog are not available to it. Depending on exactly what work you ar...

Re: How do you handle GPS-info and location labels?

Thanks Mke, I think this could be quite useful for me. I will need to have a think about this! John, a few thoughts: - do you actually see the OK and Cancel buttons (as per Mke's screenshot) - just wondering if for some reason the dialog box's window is being truncated (which would itself be very od...

That seems fine for me. Have scanned NAS drives and folders on the W11 C: drive, no issues.

Could you give an example please Mke, or perhaps go into this in a bit more detail? It sounds useful.

Re: PSU on Windows 11

I run PSU v6 and have just migrated to a W11 laptop. Though I've not used it thoroughly on this machine yet it seems to be working fine. The install went smoothly.

I had to remember to exclude the catalog folder from virus scanning.

Re: restore not working

That worked, thanks.
Is that what import does (or in this case didn't do!), an OS-level file copy of the catalog? Just curious.

restore not working

I am trying to migrate to a new laptop. I am following the guidance in the PSU Maintenance PDF. On the old laptop I have compacted the databases (thumb and catalog) and made a backup. On the new laptop I have installed PSU (the same version, which is to say the terminal V6 version, 6.7.2.4229 64bit)...

Re: Import failure

I used to get this problem occasionally (running on W7). I think it was a timing issue, that the file system just couldn't create the folder in time for PSU to put the first few images into it (perhaps surprising if these processes are asynchronous but there you go). When it happened I'd just run th...

Re: Slide Show

Not quite sure what you mean by "mark" a picture? You can set star rating, colour label and favourite (heart) in both full screen and preview modes. I also find it useful to use preview mode, as you can have the pane of your choice (info, details, etc) open and if you are in full-screen mo...

Re: Places

Settings -> sync settings -> "read settings" tab -> GEO location processing. I think you have this set to "city". Change it to "location". I just tested this and it has the effect you want (ie when you enter the levels in the GEO panel, then click "apply", the...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

Hi Jeff Great, sounds like you're getting a good handle on it all. By doing a drag in the catalog panel. Or is there a field in the label details panel I could be using? You can use either. In the label details dialogue you will see a dropdown for "parent" (it's the second item down) and h...

Re: "Auto" creation of category and collection names?

ultimately it has to work for tens of thousands of images, most of which already have GPS metadata included and many also with populated location metadata fields. OK, understood. I'm only experimenting with a small subset of these though. Totally agree, that's the best way. So in the long term it i...
