This message comes up across the bottom of my screen every time I start PS. It’s accompanied by the syncing files dialog on the left side. Even after the syncing has finished (“no processes” in the activity monitor), though, the “Continuing….” alert stays on the screen, flashing continuously. I’ve let the machine sit for a couple of hours, in case there’s some process that hasn’t finished, but the alert continues. Exiting and restarting PS starts the process all over again: the same files get synced, again.
I have searched the forums for help, but so far no luck.
There are no “Out of sync” files in States, and nothing relevant I can find in the “From Repository”. The only odd thing is that all of the files are in the same folder and were made on the same day in 2023, but not every file in that folder is in the group being synced. I have checked the files for date irregularities, as suggested in one thread, but they all seem to be fine. I’ve re-synced them all, rebuilt the thumbnails and previews, verified the files, and saved the metadata to the files.
I’ve also checked the folder, and have mapped it to the correct physical folder; I’ve also performed all of the operations under the “Verify folder” menu.
Finally, I’ve compacted the database. Despite all of this, the problem persists.
System: macOS 14.6.1 Sonoma, current version of PS. Database files reside on the computer’s internal SSD; image files are on an external USB-C drive.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

If you get such message then most likely there are images in your catalog that either do not exist or for some reason cannot be read.
You should be able to find these files in the timeline under a 1899 year.
Try this, right click on your top level photo folder
Select Verify Folder -> Verify Folder quick
Wait for it to finish
Are there results? Process those

There's only a need for compacting when PSU prompts for it. Typically there's no a need to run it manually. Finally, I’ve compacted the database. Despite all of this, the problem persists.

They definitely exist and are accessible; PS is able to Locate in Finder, and I've been able to open them in their respective app.Hert wrote: 27 Nov 24 7:40 If you get such message then most likely there are images in your catalog that either do not exist or for some reason cannot be read.

I hadn't looked at "Timeline" before, and sure enough they're listed in 1899, although the date shown on each thumbnail is correct (2023), as is the metadata (as reported by Preview>Inspector.)
I found your instructions for dealing with this in another thread. Using a couple of the files as a test, I read the metadata from the file; no change. I then redated the files with Cmd-Shift-D; no change. I also did the Build Missing Thumbs and Previews operation after the redate; no change. The 63 files are still in the 1899 Timeline, and get re-imported on every application launch.
Done multiple times. No change.Try this, right click on your top level photo folder

I only did it because PS prompted me to do so.There's only a need for compacting when PSU prompts for it. Typically there's no a need to run it manually.

Looks like something prevents those files from being read.

Hello Everyone,
Has anyone found a solution for files showing up in the 1899 timeline despite correct metadata?
Nora.

Go to the 1899 year
Select all thumbs (Ctrl+A on Windows, Cmd+A on macOS)
Right click -> Operations -> Verify Files
In results are found the process those
Did that not import the metadata for those files then:
Check that your files are accessible by PSU
Still no luck?
Remove the files from the catalog (not from disk of course) and try to re-import them.

Re: “Continuing the import for 63 files” won’t go away!
Are they TIF (or TIFF) files by chance?
I had a similar problem as described. In my case the TIF files were not readable by PSU and a couple other applications. However, they were readable by the application that generated the TIF files. I deduced this to mean the originating application did not make the TIF files correctly. . I regenerated the TIF files in the offending app... this time NOT using compression.
This seemed to allow PSU and other applications to work as expected with the updated TIF files.
(I am working in a WIN11 environment. YMMV.)

Can agree about the TIF files I have had a couple of old TIF files cause exactly these problems including the removal of compression to overcome the problem. In my case the files were from scanned images many years ago no idea what drivers were in use at the time.

Re: “Continuing the import for 63 files” won’t go away!
Problem has been solved after an email conversation with Hert. Involved removing all of the problem files from the database, then re-importing them. That did the trick.
