Metadata sync from CaptureOne, DNG

Post by david mantripp »

Hi all

I'm having a bit of a struggle sync'ing metadata from CaptureOne to PSU (I know it's a FAR better idea to go the other way, I'm just preparing the ground to use PSU as my sole "ingestion hub").

Here's the issue: I have folders with a mix of DNGs (Ricoh) and ORFs, all of which have been keywords in C1 (v23). I've used "Sync Metadata" in C1 to export the keywords, then Metadata->Read Metadata From File in PSU (2023.1.1.4850). For the ORFs the keywords and mapped to labels in PSU (existing or new) and categories. All very smooth. But for the DNGs, nothing happens.

The XMP files look pretty much the same (first attachment in the list is associated with a DNG, second with an ORF)

Any idea what I ... or CaptureOne ... could be doing wrong?

Thanks,
David

DNG files have embedded metadata, not as a sidecar XMP file.

If possible, configure C1 to follow the standard and write embedded metadata to DNG files instead of a sidecar file.

If needed, you can use right click on the thumb in PSU and select Run Script from Repository -> Metadata -> Import from sidecar XMP file

Thanks Hert, that script works perfectly - I don't think C1 has an option to write to DNGs, it always creates XMP.

@David, after 12 years I leave C1 software.

But to your question. I think better way is - C1 should never write metadata to DNG files. If you import DNG files into your PSU catalog, PSU can write all Metadata from your existing "ORF/XMP" files to DNG.
