back ups...

Post by space »

Hi,

Today tried to do a back up and ran into, "Verification of back up files failed. Please try again". Tried "again" three times and got the same message. Before attempting the back up procedures, compacted both the catalog and thumbs databases. Not sure what's going on here. Any ideas?

Cheers - Rogan

I had exactly the same experience when I tried to make a backup to my external hard drive. Finally I changed the backup location to a fixed hard drive, and it all worked fine.

Rogan,

Most likely your backup medium is out of space?

Hert, short question: do you think it would be possible to check upfront if the space on the drive would be enough for the backup before the backup process starts?
If so I would suggest to add a FR in Mantis for PSU V2 if someone thinks this could be useful :)

Michael, that would be possible, so go ahead and shoot-in that request.
Thank you

On a related topic, people who know a lot more than me about best practices pertaining to databases have advised to backup before compacting. I realize that you were hoping that the compacting procedure would solve your backup problem, but it's still something to consider not compacting even in that situation until the backup has been successfully completed.
