Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Thank you, Hert. Just ran compact and both are much faster. My first test today had the same time as v5.1.0.2446. And the two other file extensions are not there.
Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Likewise but only on my test databases so far, hopefully get a break to set it going on the main database tomorrow.
Edit: and yes on the Master database as well, much faster thanks Hert. and please enjoy a Merry Xmas, many thanks for the work you put in on the software.

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Spoke to soon, it seemed to work the first time on both .db's, now it just hangs on .cat.db and eventually totally freezes. Its fine when working on the thumbs.db.
No error messages or panels, it appears to create a file in a temp folder that looks going by the size to be a copy or compacted copy of the .db, this then disappears but nothing else happens until it freezes with no cpu activity and the progress bar freezes its motion.

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Weird, worrying even, I restored back to a backup taken directly after running a compact using the version 2607.
Just to check all was OK I ran a Compact on the .cat.db again after restoring.
It to has frozen, after using Task Manager in Windows 10 to see what was going on -
it appears to have a child process involving Microsoft Passport listed ?? Not something I was expecting to see ! ???
Have never used MS Passport to my knowledge so I am bemused, is it something in use within PSU ?

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Just ran compact again and it completed both the catalog and thumbnail in about the same time as my last compacting. In this case I ran compact catalog and thumbnail individually and not the both option and everything is running fine.
Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Tks for the report Larry56, most intrigued now as to what is happening. beginning to wonder if there is a problem with the .cat.db. Nothing untoward is happening when I use the system itself merely the problems when compacting.

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Same issue here. Compacting the thumbnail db works abeit slowly. Compacting the cat.db just does not work and PSU hangs.G8DHE wrote: 27 Dec 19 9:43 Spoke to soon, it seemed to work the first time on both .db's, now it just hangs on .cat.db and eventually totally freezes. Any news on this issue?
Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
KeesdH; In 2607, the compacting is identical in speed of versions before build 2592 because the change was reverted.
Did you already install build 2607?

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Hi Hert,
I am running 2607. I tried again this morning. PSU is running for over three hours now just compacting the cat.db and using 0.2% cpu. Will abort the process now.

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Hi all
First compression made after upgrading to build 2607 went fairly quick. But now, second compression, is taking more than 2 thous and is still running...

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Just tried 2616.
Given the 8% cpu and 8% diskaccess and after a while the journal file comming up something seems to happen. After a probably normal period of time PSU came back, however with the error message "database table is locked". Not sure if the compacting has worked out.

Re: Compacting thumbnail database takes a long time
Yes, the compact did finish. It is finished as soon as the journal file disappears
