Fix incorrect database dates?

Post by DarkStar »

I just converted a mid-size (25k) database from IDI v5 to PSU, and I'm trying to fix some incorrect dates.

When I go to the catalog "show by date" list, it has some completely absurd dates listed, such as 1899, 8512, ,8624, and others. The technical metadata for the images in these categories is correct (date/time digitized, and such).

I thought the dates looked a bit like sequence numbers, but they appear to be unrelated to the pictures referenced.

Is there any way to find out why the database thinks these images were taking at such strange dates, and correct it?

In "By Date" you can easily select those images. Use Ctrl+Shift+D on a selection of thumbnails to redate them (or use the Batcher)

That did not appear to change anything. The metadata date in the photo details window appears to be correct, it's just not sorted correctly in the "By Date" list. Here's a screenshot (click for large version):

I am having a similar problem, but it is all to do with .AVI files. I have XMP files which contain the correct information regarding the creation date etc, and the filestamps are also correct, but PSU incorrectly reports all the dates so I end up with dates from 2014 up to 8621.

The attached image shows the problem. The dates in the left hand column are wild, and don't match up with the image information shown on the right. The data on the right is today's date even though the AVI file was actually captured in 2008!

I also find that files imported recently (since 1.5 ?) appear in the Catalog By Date incorrectly, with years shown as 86nn. Removing from catalogue, checking the Exif with Exiftool, deleting any XMP and reimporting with 1.5.0.74 (32 and 64 bit) just reproduces the error.

31/12/1899 shows up for Date Original etc in Technical Details for jpegs stripped of any exif and xmp metadata.

These odd dates are typically generated for some movie files or old RAW formats that don't store default Exif structures (like early Canon digi cams).

For the movie files, it means that your AVI file is unsupported (currently only some Nikon and Canon AVI files are supported). Better to send me a small movie fragment from your cam. Please no more that a few seconds.
