I'm just getting started with Face Recognition and must be doing a lot wrong. I've read the instructions in the manual three times and am still puzzled. Perhaps I just don't understand what Face Recognition is and is not supposed to do.
Here are the issues I've run into:
1) PSU has identified many, many faces and linked them with names, but it still asks me to confirm each face in every photo. Is that how it is designed? To confirm, I have to open each photo and then confirm each face. Each confirm takes two clicks, one to open a little menu, another to select the appropriate name to confirm. With tens of thousands of photos, it is going to take me "forever" to confirm all of the faces. What am I doing wrong or not understanding? My understanding from the manual is that once a face is confirmed that PSU will then automatically identify similar faces. But as best I can tell, PSU only identifies faces that are exactly like the one identified--in other words, in duplicates of that particular photo.
2) I was hoping identified faces would be shown in thumbnails, but I'm having to open photos one at a time to see that. When I'm in Category view and select a person's name, it displays thumbnails of all images that PSU has identified as having that person in them. But if there are multiple people in a photo, I don't know if PSU has identified the others or not. Is there a way to see multiple identified faces in thumbnails?
3) There are some areas that PSU has identified as faces but that it has not associated with a specific name. When I add a name, PSU then says "No facial features." That doesn't make sense to me. The facial recognition automatically put a box around the face, so it must have identified facial features. But when I give the face a name, PSU seems to be saying that there's no face there. This is happening with some photos but not all. I have not yet figured out a commonality among the photos where this is happening--Some are clearer than others, some are facing the side and other are facing front, some are color and some are black & white, etc.
There must be an easier, faster way to use Facial Recognition. Any help/ideas will be appreciated. Thanks!
Face Recognition?
Re: Face Recognition?
From the AI manual:
It's important not to confirm every detected face. Only confirm a face if it hasn’t already been automatically identified.
A confirmed face serves as a reference for future recognition. Once you confirm a face in one image, Photo Supreme can recognize the same person in other images based on that reference.Once a face is confirmed, Photo Supreme will automatically identify it in other images without you needing to confirm it again, as long as the software detects the same person. You don’t need to confirm every face in every image. If a face has already been recognized
from a previous confirmation, it’s automatically matched in new photos.

Re: Face Recognition?
Face detection and face recognition are two separate processes. Detection identifies the areas where faces appear, while recognition attempts to identify who the person is in those areas. Sometimes, the recognition AI may not be able to extract facial features from a detected face. That’s perfectly normal; you can simply ignore the message. It just means that the detected face can’t be used as a reference.PSU then says "No facial features." That doesn't make sense to me

Re: Face Recognition?
Thank you, Hert. Since I've already confirmed hundreds of faces, it sounds like I've goofed myself up. Do I need to start over with PSU to reset everything? And how can I tell if a face has been confirmed or not? I thought a blue box meant the face had not been confirmed; that's why I've been confirming them. And what about the same person at different ages? The face of a person as a child looks quite different from that when they're an adult. Does the face recognition have age progression built into it so that I only need to identify a given person once?
Sorry, I'm very confused about this functionality!

Re: Face Recognition?
A green rectangle is a confirmed face.
It's not that difficult.
If you have the same person at different ages and the software doesn't recognize the person at that age...confirm the face and that too becomes a reference face.
No need to start over BTW...just keep your hundreds of confirmed faces. Going forward, don't continue confirming every single face. In the details of the person's catalog label you can find all confirmed faces. You can also remove the ones you don't want.
It's not that difficult.
Code: Select all
Imagine starting new...
You detect the first image with PersonA.
You assign that person's label to the area. That means that that area is now confirmed (green)
You detect a second image containing PersonA.
Does it auto recognize the face?
No? --> Confirm it (only if you think it's a good reference face (the area then turns green)
Yes? --> No further action needed (stays blue)

Re: Face Recognition?
Thank you; very helpful.
Sorry to be so dumb about this. The app I had started using prior to PSU required every face to be confirmed; that may be why I've been confused. I The stand-alone version of that app was discontinue and went to subscription only. I'm glad it did because I like PSU much, much better. It is just taking me some time get familiar with it.
