Question about a filtering rule

Post by jwiegley »

Say I have two folders, A and B. I’d like to narrow my view to all duplicates in A that have a duplicate in B. So, if there are three photos, two in A and one in B, I’d see the two in A. But if there are none in B, I wouldn’t see any, even though duplicates exist in A. Is this possible?

if they have the same filename it's simple
1. Select folder A with "right mouse" and they "Add to dynamic search"
2. The same procedure but hold Alt-Key down by right-click and "Add to dynamic search"

This will display files that in folder A but not in folder B

1. Select folder A with "right mouse" and they "Add to dynamic search"
1. Select folder B with "right mouse" and they "Add to dynamic search"

This will display common files from both folders

In addition to RobiWan his reply you can also do this with these steps:

Try this:
1. Open the Folder A
2. Right click on the folder and select "Add to Dynamic Search"
3. In States, right click on "Duplicate Files", and select "Add to Dynamic Search"

When you run this Dynamic Search (click its run button) it gives you all files in Folder A that have duplicates somewhere in the Catalog
4. Click the Dynamic Search it's hamburger menu in the upper right corner and select "Store to Favorites"

Now repeat for Folder B:
5. Open the Folder B
6. Right click on the folder and select "Add to Dynamic Search"
7. In States, right click on "Duplicate Files", and select "Add to Dynamic Search"
8. Click the Dynamic Search it's hamburger menu in the upper right corner and select "Store to Favorites"

Now for the result:
9. Clear the Dynamic Search (select from its mini hamburger menu)

10. In your Favorites, right click on the item from step 4 and select "Add to Dynamic Search" (you can also drag it to the Dynamic Search panel.
11. In your Favorites, right click on the item from step 8 and select "Add to Dynamic Search" (you can also drag it to the Dynamic Search panel.
12. Right click on the second one in the Dynamic Search and select "Exclude from search"

13. Run the Dynamic Search

Optionally add this Dynamic Search as a favorite again for future re-use.

Thank you, these are great suggestions. In my case the file names do not match, just the image content, but you've given me the ideas I need to pursue a custom filter.
