Two problems with keywords after re-importing photos in a new catalog: #1, missing synonyms

As mentioned in the forum, in December I re-imported all my photos in a clean catalog to fix a problem with thumbnails. I've noted that unfortunately keyword synonyms haven't been imported, despite they are present in XMP files. Having kept the previous catalog, I exported the old "formatted vocabulary", so I have a backup of that information. I tried to import them in the new catalog, and it turned out they were placed under a new category tree. Trying to merge this new tree with the old one didn't fix the problem as I hoped.
Please let me know how to solve this. Writing a script is ok.

Drag the top level Catalog Labels from the imported category to the target category.

I tried dragging domain:Eukariota from under Vocabulary Taxonomy/[Taxonomy] to Taxonomy (the orange one). I just got a duplicated, as you can see.

Maybe try merge instead?
Right-click on the label, select "merge"...

Merging it's the first thing I tried, as I said in the first message.
