Rogue labels - how to eradicate

Post by gcurrie »

I've been using Photo Supreme since the Idimager days (pre-PS). Currently still on v7 Server edition.

I have a few labels that seem to end up in my Categories even though I delete them. Sometimes they end up applied to photos without any effort on my part.

All photos are either TIFF or JPEG. I save metadata to the image file, never the other way around.

One label I used ten years ago, and then discovered that the location was actually a different city. I will never use the original label, but it keeps getting assigned to nearby locations and recreated after I delete it.

Another label is Bakersfield California USA, where I have never been and likely will never be. This recently was applied to Maui Hawaii USA photos.

In both cases, the rogue label is set to NOT unassign labels with the same parents. ALL of my location labels will unassign labels with common parents.

Any idea where this metadata might be hiding? I have three clients and a PostGreSQL server install. In a database table? Or is it maybe embedded in older image files and I need to somehow clean it out?

Any ideas are welcome as this is driving me batty.

How you describe it I expect that this metadata is hidden somewhere in an image file.

You could use the upper right search bar and search for Bakersfield That will return all images where Bakersfield appears *anywhere* in its data. If you get a result then select the thumb, and open the Image Details. If you are upgraded version 2023 then you can use the new filter feature in the Image Detail to quickly find the field that holds the value Bakersfield.

Does that work?

Searching for 'bakersfield' works (I'm still on v7). PS goes into a non-responsive state for ~3 minutes, returns with 679 images. The data is in an IPTC extension Location Created. I am clearing that field.

The odd thing is if I search one of the other rogue labels (Sedro-Woolley) it returns 0 images - even though most of the previous images ALSO have Sedro-Woolley in the ImageContent-IPTC Subject Code(s)-City. Does a '-' character get in the way of Search?

I have thousands of images tagged with city of Conway, WA. Randomly some of these will become tagged instead with Conway, AR (a place I've never been to).

OK, getting odder all the time. In my label (category) details, a fair subset have Metadata:Apply Detail Profile checked. In those detail profiles are weird entries including specific addresses of places I've never known.

I'm unchecking all Apply Detail Profile settings that I find.
