Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
I use Affinity Photo for Mac and save my multi-layered files in their native afphoto format. Until the most recent update, there weren't any issues doing so in PS 7. The fileds loaded just fine and had lovely thumbnails. But now after the most recent update, PS 7 doesn't generate thumbnails for these files. See attached. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
For Affinity files, Psu asks the OS to generate a thumb.
Check if you see thumbs in Finder for your afphoto files.

Re: Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
I do see the image in the Finder when I use the Quick Look option on my Mac.
Re: Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
Quick Look is something different than icons in Finder. Visit a folder in Finder and set the view to "As Icons".I do see the image in the Finder when I use the Quick Look option on my Mac.
Here on my macOS (version 12.6) I get to see thumbs in Finder when I open a folder containing AFPHOTO files.
And as I see thumbs in Finder, I also get those in PSU

Re: Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
Thanks. I did NOT have thumbnails for afphoto files when viewing as icons in macos 12.6. After reading your post I did some internet searching and found other users with a similar problem with different file types. Luckily, someone figured out a solution. I'll post here in case someone else has this problem in the future:
Open up Activity Monitor, searched for a process called "com.apple.quicklook.ThumbnailsAgent," and force quit that process.
Then Force Quit/Relaunch Finder. Now the OS should be generating thumbnails for all image files.
Open Photo Supreme, select all files without thumbnails, right click and choose Operations/Rebuild Thumbnails.
Now I have thumbnails again.

Re: Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
I hate to bring this old post back to life but I'm having this same problem again after updating to macOS 15 Sequoia. I tried to rotate an afphoto image in PS 2025 and when PS tried to rebuild the thumb, I just get the generic icon. Verifying a folder with afphoto files in it also caused the thumbs to be replaced with generic icons. Rebuilding the thumbnail didn't help. I also tried my own tip re the activity monitor as desribed above but that didn't help either. The icons look fine in Mac finder so I don't think this can be resolved the same way as the 2022 issue.
Re: Missing Thumbnails for Affinity Photo Files
The latest update brought back thumbnails for afphoto files on macOS Sequoia but introduced other issues. Now when I save a file as afphoto and verify the folder, it creates a thumbnail with transparent borders and lists the size as 1:1 despite the actual file being in another ratio. In the case of the screenshot, it's a 4x5 image, now with borders and listed as square. it appears to happen if I rebuild thumbs as well, though not all change to 1:1 ratio. Weird.
Update: all my rebuilt thumbs that were missing are now listed as 1:1 as well.
