No illustrator thumbnails

For a while now Photo Supreme has not displayed thumbnails for newly cataloged Illustrator files.
When I view the .ai file types in PSu, I have thumbnails of files from past years but if I manually rebuild that thumbnail, it's replaced with the app icon. I've read elsewhere that a common solution for this issue is to make sure files are saved with PDF compatibility checked--this is true with all my Illustrator files, though.

Am I missing something at the MacOS level or is this an issue with PSu?

For AI files, PSU asks the Operating System to generate thumbnails.

Do you get thumbnails in macOS Finder for these files?
