[solved] Correct inavlid meta data: how to restore file name in xmp:dc:title?

Post by freudenthaler »

Due to a faulty import script I invalidated a lot of my photos :(. Instead of leaving the field "dc:title" blank (with no changes) I stamped a lot of my pictures with a specific value.

So what's the correct an easiest way of recovering the metadata for "xmp:dc:title" in PSu? In my case the title should be the same as the photo's physical file name (as I guess this is what PSu writes as standard value).

Any advice appreciated - thx in advance.

Playing around with Exif-Tool to find a field, which still holds the correct value of the filename revealed the following 3 fields:
- EXIF:DocumentName
- IPTC:ObjectName
- XMP:PreservedFileName

I found no suitable built-in functionality in the in PSu's metadata or scripts menu, so I da a look in the script repository and voila, a template for copying metadata.

Stll the script needs to be adapted for my purpose. Hert, please could you assist? Thanks in advance.

1. Select all thumbs
2. Open Image Details
3. Right click in the title field
4. Select Image -> File Name (or any other data part you would like in that field...eg Advanced->XMP->XMP Properties->XMP Media Management Scheme->Preserved FileName)
5. Click OK to apply the updated details

Tip. you don't need ExifTool to see all your metadata. Right click -> Run Script from Repository -> Metadata -> Full Exif Dump

Yess! Thx Hert :-) this indeed is exactly the functionality needed. PSu is such a mighty tool and I use PSu to seldom to keep all it's power in my mind...
