Hi,
I'm looking to switch to PS from Lightroom Classic. I followed instructions to save metadata to file for all photos and then did an import of my Lightroom catalog. I'm seeing some discrepancies and missing metadata for a lot of photos in PS after the import. Let me try to explain. I don't know how to add pictures to my posts so see attachment for screenshots of the issues.
To troubleshoot this photo, for example, I have tried in Lightroom to manually do Save metadata to file. And then in PS, I right-clicked on the file and did:
1) Operations->Verify file
2) Metadata->Read metadata from File
This did not resolve the issue. The photo is still missing metadata info in PS, and the photo does not show up in Timeline.
Metadata shows up fine in Windows Explorer.

Re: Issue with missing metadata after Lightroom import
Looking at your screenshots it looks like you have half cooked XMP information. Try this:
1. Select the thumb in Photo Supreme
2. Right Click -> Metadata -> Convert Metadata to XMP
Does that bring in the details?
If so then your existing XMP metadata is "half cooked". The "Convert Metadata to XMP" was introduced to fix metadata from software that doesn't write complete XMP. FYI; Lightroom is software that does it right and will not create half cooked XMP. Likely the software you used before LR and you just never noticed in LR.
This fix is needed only once (one-time operation). That is: as long as you don't use the software that does this anymore.

Re: Issue with missing metadata after Lightroom import
Thanks for that. After I did Convert Metadata to XMP then the metadata showed up. What's weird is, out of that album of 67 photos for example, 52 of them were fine and the rest 15 were missing the metadata.
So is there a way to filter out all photos that have "half cooked" metadata so that I can run the Convert Metadata to XMP fix on them? I have about 63,000 photos and don't know how many are supposedly "half cooked".
As far as software, I have only used Lightroom and no other programs. For many years, I was using Lightroom Classic. Then I moved to Lightroom CC (cloud) as we were taking photos from our mobile devices and it was easier to have them synced directly to Lightroom CC. Then about 2 years ago, I went back to Lightroom Classic but kept the CC subscription so that the photos are also synced to Lightroom CC so that they can still be viewed from our mobile devices. I only use Lightroom CC for adding and removing photos, but metadata editing are done via Lightroom Classic.

Re: Issue with missing metadata after Lightroom import
Personally I'd take no chance and do the metadata to xmp conversion for all files.
It's a one time operation to get your highest level of metadata up to date.
Select all thumbs->right click on a selected thumb->metadata->Convert metadata to XMP

I'll do that, thanks!
