This is driving me crazy! Info entry fields problem

Post by Larry56 »

Someone please help me with this. I don't see others report this behavior so it must be something I'm doing or not doing. It certainly isn't my expectation of how it should work. Photo Supreme v6.4.1.3903 on Macbook Pro Big Sur.

In summary, the problem is entering information in the Info fields. As an example, but true of all fields, I want to enter a Creator name I go to the Creator field and start typing. As an example as I type Larry56 an autofill box shows with "Larry56 Photo" but when I press space bar to continue to fill in the field with a different word I can't. I must select the autofill and can't continue typing. Hitting ESC does nothing and if I press the Tab key I can go to other fields but then I have a blinking cursor in two fields.

My expectation is that pressing space bar will allow me to continue to type but that's not apparently how it works. Can someone tell me how they work in these fields?

FWIW, I asked about this issue some time ago and there were a couple suggestions but unfortunately I can't find those posts so I'm starting all over.

Thanks.

Sorry but I dont reproduce your problem on my photosupreme (v6.4.1.3903 on Windows).

When i follow your steps, an autofillbox appears with "Larry56 Photo" but it's not selected by default, I can continue typing. If I select it, the text is filled and selected in blue, typing doesn't work. But I'm allowed to unselect the text and modify the text.

So it's working correctly here, difference between Windows and Mac version ?

One thing I noticed during my test is that the autocomplete seems to remember all values entered even if there is no picture with the value anymore. It would be nice that the autofield only show current values. Now I have a Larry56 photo value in my autofill box ;) ;)

Another weird behaviour is that during my test i entered the value "test" to several files. Now in the autofill I have 3 times the value "test" and not only one. Would it be possible to suggest only distinct values ?

In that earlier topic that Larry56 talks about I have stated that this is also not happening on my macOS. Just tested again on macOS 11.6 and its working fine.
Perhaps there's some software installed on Larry's machine that captures keystrokes and is interfering.

Values are kept per-field, regardless if there are matches or not. It's a list of previously entered values. Not a list of occurring values.

Right click on an entry that you don't want and select do delete it

Only distinct values are added to the list. Maybe one of your values have a space after it.

Thank you.

Hert, any idea what type of program would cause this? I don't have too many things running in the background.

Also, do you have a link or date to that original discussion? I'd like to figure out why I didn't find it.

Nope.
All I can say that it works here on two MacBooks (a Pro 2016 and an Air M1).
